Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s too early, but rather too late. Not starting Zappe last week was the worst decision I’ve ever seen Belichick make and one I will never fully understand.
At some point you need some sort of pocket awareness, no? Isn’t Mac smart? Your line isn’t playing particularly well so at some point you should step up into the pocket and do something.
That wasn’t a lack of pocket awareness though. When he wound up Cannon was engaging the defender and then lost him. That isn’t a lack of pocket awareness because he would have thought Cannon would have slowed the guy down enough to release the ball.
The sack on the other drive was on him for not throwing the ball through the end zone, but this play was horrible blocking over pocket awareness.
I would say coaching has really dropped off, contributing to a less disciplined team with more penalties. But since we don’t have an offensive or defensive coordinator, I’m not sure where to assign blame.
Well, since this is a game thread in which we have all the time in the world, maybe show me a paragraph or two in support of the playcalling first. I'll wait.
Just as I was going to say what a break by that ball going into the end zone, our wonderful special teams gets a totally useless penalty to pin us back on the 10. So I guess it's not enough that we can't make a play there, we just have to hurt the team
At this point the zero benefit to put zappe in. It's wouldn't do Mac any good and with this offensive line it's hard to imagine Zappe would be any better

And also, it's not entirely the OL's fault. Cannon at this point in his career just can't handle speed rushers anymore. Jets know this and not giving Cannon help is just asking for it.
OL held for a second, then allowed pressure. Mac failed to feel the pressure and and step up and away from it. Blame for both. I'll hold Zappe to the same standard.
