Surely Our Deep Depth In The Secondary Played A Lot In This Blowout Game. NOT!

This year the Patriot safeties seem to be less aggressive than they have been, which on confounds the move to let Jabril Peppers go..
Not saying that is the whole answer, but Peppers always played hard and he is missed.
 
1) We don't have any depth that we can count on except for Dugger.
2) Because there will be injuries, those next in line shouldn't have to earn the right to help the starters from being injured. That is their role. Those who could be next up if there are injuries should be getting reps in garbage time.
3) So, I agree with you that these are poor backups. I also believe that they should reps in garbage time so that maybe they can get to be a little more ready to play if needed.
4) I left Woods out in error. I guess that he is getting a few reps when healthy and has moved ahead of the invisible Austin.

It's not the only group that needs to be better. The backers need to be better as well. That's why one group of subs is getting snaps while the other isn't. You don't want to put the entire back half of the defense on the field all at one time. The starters in the secondary, including dugger are better, so they play while the backers get sorted out

So, rather than playing a much weaker player in garbage time, it is worth risking an injury to Gonzo, Davis, Jones, Woodson or Dugger?
And why? Because the backups aren't good enough to be on the 53, but not good enough to play when active, not even in garbage time.

What i hope for as a fan is not a repeat of 2021 season.. I feel this team is much better organizationally then it's been in years. That season post bye week they faded.. I believe Josh being here is going to be huge in reminding the team of that.
A big part of the 2021 post-bye collapse was the league figuring out that Mac Jones couldn't throw deep or to the sideline, and so just clogged up the middle of the field.

Good luck trying that with Drake Maye.

Good points. I remember that being discussed at the time. Drake the absolute scorching he's been on even if we see some resistance with Cleveland this Sunday.. Drake is playing with a level of precision and eliteness not seen in NE since......

and Woodson and Dugger are on the injury report. Hawkins came off this week. But we didn't reward Austin and Pettus!

How about rewarding Woodson for his good play by resting him at the end of a runaway game. Of course, you will whine when Woodson isn't at 100% for Game 19, as is often case for rookies.

I don't care if Austin or Pettus want reps. The issue is what is best for the team.
 
Not for nothing but our defensive coverage and backfield need the reps… they have the most room to improve. Now is the time.
 
Real offense means a top QB.
Who is left on the schedule?

Baker Mayfield
Lamar Jackson
Joe Flacco/Joe Burrow

Yeah, Peppers has been really aggressive riding the bench for Pittsburgh. He barely plays, if at all.
