Patriots Player Departure Official 2023 Patriots Roster Cutdown Thread (final roster in opening post)

Phillips is in. Thought he might be on the bubble

Why wouldn’t he be? And no, 4 million doesn’t guarantee a roster spot.
They will absolute eat the 4 million if a player is beaten out. Paying 4 million for a guy to sit on the bench is no different than paying 4 million for a guy to go home.
While this is 100% true, it is also purely hypothetical in that there is a 0% chance that the other OTs beat out anyone worthy of a guaranteed salary.

The NFL should really add 3 extra roster spots that are designated for special teams only (K, P & LS) so they can avoid, to a degree, this kind of roster reshuffling.
Think the 53 number is sort of their way of doing that with 25 for O and D, then 3 at those ST spots, rather than a nice even 50 or other number. Totally get your point though.

It’d be interesting if they could carry a slightly more expanded roster into the regular season, and then eventually boil it down however many weeks in. Even if it was sooner than later. Would help protect the product on the field more against the war of attrition and roster juggling.

I’ve been tracking the Patriots salary cap for 20 years.

They have a $4.25M salary charge right now for the active QB room.
That’s a little lower than the 2023 team with $4.5M including Brady on his rookie deal, Damon Huard, and Rohan Davey.

Things will change. But that’s amazing.

Joe Giles Harris?!?!? That ****ing stiff should NEVER have been that close to a "Final Cut."
Jesus, you are one miserable old man. You will literally ***** about anything, if it fits your anti-BB agenda.

Did you ever consider that Daniels was mistaken that Giles Harris was one of their “final cuts”, a term which really doesn’t apply to NFL cutdown day and the way the teams announce the cuts and prelim 53 man roster?

Now STFU and go drink your Metamucil.

That we didn’t have 3 starters from the class.

Not 3 starters in the first year.

For example, we have Uche, Dugger and Onwenu from the 2020 draft. Statistically, on average, that is a good draft but you would not know it around PatsFans.

Straight to IR candidates: Anderson, J. Andrews, TT, Wade, Roberts.
That will make room for a legit vet QB2, RB3 (could be MonTy/JJ return), and a 3rd TE.

Roberts isn't injured, not is J. Andrews to our knowledge.

Reiff, Anderson and TT are the obvious candidates. Reiff and Anderson bring the OL down to a reasonable number.

Belichick cuts McSorely early ...
Pulls a rope-a-dope ... surprises all.
He is back as qb2 and Cunny qb3.
I am tired ... need to be up early.
Posted this for heads to pop ... what if???
HaHaHa ... goodnight faithful flock lmao.

The kicker and tight ends were brutal misses but overall that’s one of Bill’s best drafts in a while.

I think the most incredible thing here is that they had 12 draft picks, they actually USED all 12 picks, and then 11 of those players actually made the 53! And the only guy who didn’t, Bolden, was the final draft pick in the 7th round who was also trending towards making the roster but went to IR due to a freak concussion.

If you told me in the early spring that the Pats would have that many picks, use ‘em all, and then have all but the final one make the roster I would’ve never believed it.

Anderson practiced today according to reports. Plus, he would have missed 4 games if he stayed on the NFI list. Why activate him from the NFI then to just put him on IR and have to expose a player to waivers in the process?
