Patriots Player Departure Official 2023 Patriots Roster Cutdown Thread (final roster in opening post)

1 QB, 2 RB, 2TE, 11 OL…

The only one I'd question is Ameer Speed instead of Ronnie Perkins. I'd keep Perkins, he looked like he was coming on.
I agree with this.
I fully expect Speed to be the first cut when they add a QB and a RB this week.
I doubt this. TT and Reiff, or another, to the short term IR is my guess. Maybe Perkins is added back? Need a QB and RB first.
Next I'd expect them to cut one of the OL.
Reiff goes on short term IR? I think after two or three weeks another OL will be cut like you suggest.

When they’re willing to part ways with who some thought was the backup at the most important position on the field, yet cling to redundant players like Bryant, it tells you everything you need to know about what they think of Zappe.

Im suprisingly ok with myles bryant making the team. Wtf’s the matter with me.

Boutte and Douglas making it is great.

Glad we’re not forcing a 3rd te or one of the jag rbs onto the 53

Hopefully zappe makes it through waivers, I really don’t see a much better option at qb2 especially financially

Something i find curious is why they would sign Trey Flowers if they knew he was not going to be on the active list and off the PUP as early as they did. Was there really that big of a market for him? That's a roster spot just sitting waiting for him to go to the 6 game IR

You're forgetting that they can sign players to the PS and do Game-day promotions. They'd only cut an OT if Reiff was ready to come back and only if someone else hadn't been injured.
No I understand that but after 3 games they will need to promote to 53 . So expect those elevations to happen somewhere around 5th to 6th week.

Bryant performed well in the preseason, so there's that.

I like when after 6-8 weeks getting a veteran added to the roster who isn't banged up yet.

They can leave him on IR longer, all season if they choose. Once they start the return process they have four weeks ro activate, but that can start whenever they choose.

The biggest disappointments for me were the cuts to Cunningham and Ronnie Perkins. I thought Perkins was finally living up to his potential; he looked like a beast, albeit against second stringers.

Cutting Cunningham and expecting him to clear waivers is a huge risk; I would think that the Ravens would gobble him up

I’m really interested to see who we bring as a second QB. Maybe a trade?
That’s gotta be a attractive position they saw how the fan base turned against Mac could be a young guys or journeyman QBs dream.

My choices are Chase Garbers Will Grier or a trade for vet on a bench.

Wow. Only (2) running backs? I guess someone comes back or they pick up a vet from another team?

Who is the emergency QB if Mac gets destroyed by the Eagles pass rush?

Yup. Flowers turned 30 two weeks ago and is still a great player when not injured. He very well may have had multiple offers. I would not find that surprising at all and I am glad we have him for when the inevitable injuries happen.

Strange had an up and down rookie season as a starter and Jack Jones started 2 games.

So? What is your point? Some rookies were not full-time starters on the Patriots? That is business as usual.

The NFL should really add 3 extra roster spots that are designated for special teams only (K, P & LS) so they can avoid, to a degree, this kind of roster reshuffling.
