Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Bucs have an opening on 53 (from Logan Ryan going on IR) and it could be Josh Wells getting activated off IR. There's not another obvious move, as any practice-squad promotion could just be done as an elevation. Curious to see what move they make, if any.

Todd Bowles rules out four players for Sunday at Carolina: DL Akiem Hicks, WR Julio Jones, TE Cam Brate and CB Sean Murphy-Bunting.

Bowles said safety Mike Edwards is on track to return healthy and play Sunday at Carolina after missing last week with his elbow injury. Said seeing him wearing braces on both elbows reminds him of Steve Austin, a reference he had to explain to the 26-year-old.

Final injury report for Bucs and Panthers. Carlton Davis, Shaq Mason and Mike Edwards are questionable for Sunday.

Carolina is tanking for the top pick in the draft. If the Bucs can't blow them right out of the stadium then there's something seriously wrong. Big rebound game for the defense especially... Carolina's offense was already awful and now they've traded away their best RB and WR and they're down to P.J. Walker at quarterback.

Carolina has a stout front 7 and a above average secondary. It's a divisional game too and even though the FO trading away their assets, players still play at the end.

Tampa should've blown out Pittsburgh. They were pretty much in the same boat as Carolina. Missing their top 3 corners, no Minkah and their best player TJ Watt and they still lost.

49ers are in such a messed up situation going into next season with their QB craziness.
It's crystal clear to me. They are in win now mode. They're going to let JG walk since he's OK but not good enough, sit Lance another year since he'll need another year to learn if he ever does, and they'll scope up an elite QB. It's a perfect match with Brady. They won't have to give up any draft picks since they have none and they won't have to break the bank to pay someone like Lamar $50mil.

According to Jenna Laine (ESPN reporter), the Bucs interior OL has the lowest blocking win rate in the entire league (I can't remember whether that was overall, or just pass blocking) so, again, what we are seeing and saying here matches the data.

Well is it evenly spread out or is one guy especially awful?

She just said interior OL. She did follow it up with specific mention of Goedeke, in the context of the comments from the coach, and I think it's obvious that Goedeke's the weakest of the OL right now, but she didn't break it down to the individuals.

I think it's pretty safe to rate the OL right now, though, as something like this:

Wirfs

Mason

Smith

Hainsey

Goedeke

Though the gap between Hainsey and Goedeke might be a bit bigger than that, because Goedecke has been that bad.

Bucs have ruled out cornerback Carlton Davis (hip) for Sunday’s game at Carolina. Already without Sean Murphy-Bunting, so might be a start for rookie Zyon McCollum.

Jamel Dean will still start in one spot. McCollum has barely played defensive snaps in the NFL, so a big test if he gets the call. They’re in better shape at safety if Edwards is able to go as expected.

Bucs have elevated same two players from practice squad in corner Anthony Chesley and rookie safety Nolan Turner. Tackle Josh Wells has been activated off injured reserve.

Bucs' inactives vs. Panthers: CB Carlton Davis, CB Sean Murphy-Bunting, WR Julio Jones, TE Cam Brate, DL Akiem Hicks, OL Fred Johnson, QB Kyle Trask.

Bucs have Mike Edwards healthy today, so nickel can have Winfield at nickel, Edwards/Neal at safety, Dean at outside corner and one other, either Dee Delaney or rookie Zyon McCollum. With three DBs out, not a ton of depth behind those six names.

Panthers don't have a running back today with more than 37 rushing yards this season, and D.J. Moore is their only receiver with more than 105 yards. P.J. Walker has thrown for 120 yards.

Mike Evans just dropped an easy TD

That by Evans is seriously one of the worst drops I’ve ever seen ever in terms of difficulty, or lack there of.
