Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Speaking of the 49rs, another few games like yesterday and JG might be playing himself to another big contract of about 3 years for $100mil.

The funny thing is that the team's who would go for him are the same teams that would also be considering Tom Brady.

Assuming JG finishes strong, I think Pats will be very much in the mix. They can trade Mac. Guarantee only 2 out of 3 year to JG. In the 3rd year, they can see where Zappe is at.

I know it seems like that but they aren't even close to the same QB. Jimmy is limited, very limited, in the throws he can make. Brady is not limited by anything except the JOsh Allen cannon type throws. Jimmy played really well yesterday but look at what the supporting cast did for him. I think they should keep him but it's going to be hard for the front office to justify the huge mistake they made with Lance. Brady isn't going there with his kids moving next door to him in Florida and Shanahan would have to be open to changing how he does things with Brady at QB. Brady isn't going out there and throwing 5 yard passes all day long.

Right now I don’t think the Patriots would get much more than a late day 3 pick for Mac. Lance hasn’t proven a thing and I don’t know if they want to commit to an unknown on a win now team. Unless Brady is on the radar I wouldn’t be surprised if JG stays a 49er.

I would love for it to happen - but some big changes would need to be made. On the offensive coaching front alone Brady blames Petricia for SB52, I doubt he rates Judge especially after it was known Judge said any number of QBs could’ve been successful in the Pats system. BoB would have to come back.
Lots of Homers would be upset if this happened.

I'm not a regular here, so my apologies if I'm double-covering. Most of my QB thoughts are for Mac Jones with the occasional Zappe interest.

But this is funny to me as a what if...

How crappy will TFB feel if the 49ers, led by Garapollo, advance to and win a SB? Bonus if he dispatches his old teammate's team, the Bucs, on the way? I mean, every kid would love to do it with his childhood favorite team, but at the pro level, of course, it's not likely to happen. It just must be so teeth-grindy for Jimmy G to be getting better than he is (age is what it is), then what if he has to watch Jimmy G do it in the big game... for his old favorite team.

I guess the 9ers looked good last night and I just started thinking, "huh. Well of course, Jimmy G's in his prime. TFB's 45."

But he probably won't let that hit him until the next big test is over, the division leading 5-5 TB Bucs' season. And maybe his crypto trial.

Don't get me wrong, I was extremely happy to have enjoyed the best of Brady as a Patriots fan. And no problem that TB squeezed 1 more ring out of him

But wouldn't it be cool for Jimmy G to go back as a 49er while Tommy watches at home

I'm not really getting what you're saying here, since Brady is still clearly the better QB.

Okay, went off my impressions last night. Maybe it's the five wins thing that makes me think TFB's seen better days. I'll go research them both for kicks. Scenario could still happen, teeth could still be ground, the GOAT could still be the subject of a Nelsonesque "HA HA"

Your trolling aside, wishing for a SF SB win which would tie them w/ Pats at 6 is odd. Might as well go all the way and say TFB would be irked by a Giants SB win w/ D Jones at QB, or any other team/QB winning it because he only has 7 rings and gets pissed when anyone else wins it. Lol

The use of the word still is perfect because he's so old. I wonder if there'll be fans in 75 years who'll disregard his accomplishments, like Bill Russell's have been. It's been an amazing run.

I know you want to troll, but that's a truly ****ty job of it.

  1. If Brady's no longer better than JAG, then we're talking about a player who'd be finally declining at age 45, after having set almost every QB record in NFL history. What's the "Ha Ha" there?
  2. If Brady's still better than JAG, then what good's the "HA HA", since it would be based upon being on the superior team, but that would be 2 seasons after Brady had won a SB with his 2nd NFL team?

Must hurt you that Brady proved he was far more important than Belichick to the Pats success

LOL omg, I guess "defend the Pats 6 co-leadership by hoping SF doesn't get another" seems like a sort of weird test of fanhood. But I would be happier, it goes without saying, for SF to make the SB, knock out Tampa Bay, then lose to the mighty mighty Jones Gang aka your New England Patriots.

PS, I am happy for Brady to have his 7 rings and I am fine with his 5-5 team to get ring 8 for him, if that happens. It was a "wouldn't that be funny" scenario not a manifesto.

But funny, right? "Yay go hometown 49ers go... Jimmy... :/"

Big shrug. Nobody argued that the best player ever to put on cleats is less important than a coach. I never argued crap, actually, about Brady's departure -- their interests no longer aligned. Otherwise, I'd be a regular troll here. I don't follow Brady much anymore, because he doesn't play for my favorite team, the Patriots. I did like him while he was here. I get that TB fans are different from NE fans, and I guess it's nice for the Board to make room for ya. I don't think anybody's about to win an argument that there's a better QB than Brady to ever play the game, or a better HC than Belichick. But at the end of the day, as BB says, coaches don't make the plays, players do. That said, I like a coach in his late 60s or early 70s over a QB in his late 40s to be able to keep doing it. (But I've learned not to bet on Time in the Tom vs. Time question. I am convinced there is a portrait in his attic getting gray and wrinkly and Gisele wants to get it in the divorce.)

The legit "Ha Ha" would be the Eagles beating Brady again, and then at least making it to the SB.

Why would you be happier that SF knocks out TB? Do you have some sort of allegiance with SF? Seems weird, but maybe you're just butt hurt w/ the Goat's success w/o Bill.

I appreciate how Jimmy helped hold serve for a few games for us but I can't root for him over Tom

Did you see SB 54? He folded in the fourth quarter. I don't see Jimmy G winning a Super Bowl.

Garoppolo is playing well but he's mostly just getting the ball to a variety of playmakers in that 49ers offense. If and when called on to be spectacular I don't think Garoppolo has it in him. That said, they're probably good enough with him to get to the Super Bowl. He'll have a tough time keeping up with Mahomes or Allen in the Super Bowl.

Best case scenario from the perspective of a Brady fan would be for Garoppolo to predictably implode in the postseason which would mark the end of him in SF for sure. Unless they're dedicated to Lance for next season, I could see SF being interested in bringing in Brady for a season or two. Brady also should jump at that opportunity, it's the best landing spot in the entire league for next season.

I could see Belichick being interested in bringing in Garoppolo for the final few seasons of his coaching career. Garoppolo is a better quarterback than Mac Jones. We also know how much Belichick loves Garoppolo. For this to happen though they would need to trade Jones, and depending on how the rest of this season goes, that market could be limited. Either way the Patriots hold onto Zappe as the #2 and possibly develop him further as the next guy.

The end result of any scenario in New England will not be enough for Belichick to win another division title in the East. Josh Allen and Buffalo are too good and now Miami is building toward being an elite team. It's going to be wild cards and quick postseason exits for Belichick until he retires.

Brady could win a Super Bowl with that 49ers team. He could get to another Super Bowl with Tampa Bay this season if a few things consistently improve (running game, red zone offense, etc.). Beating Kansas City or Buffalo in the Super Bowl is another story. The way Mahomes is playing right now, the Chiefs look practically unbeatable. Buffalo is a powerhouse too if Allen gets back to playing like an MVP.

The knock on JG is that he was always getting injured. Some of his limitations are injury related and not being 100%. I'd like to see how he performs going on a full season without injury.

SF isn't going to keep JG. They were going to cut him until he accepted a 20mil pay cut. Also, if they don't win the SB, JG will be the scapegoat again.

I still remember BB fawning over JG and he did look awesome in his 2 games with the Pats. If the Pats actually have an elite defense they will be SB contenders with a good enough offense and a good enough QB. Mac is similar to Mayfield, not good enough and do you think the organization want to risk a SB season with Zappe?
