Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Dallas, missing WRs, didn't have the talent to force the Bucs to shift their DB package, which meant that the Bucs were able to play the safeties more, and to leave the extra CBs on the bench.

Following up on this, here are the defensive snap totals:

Defensively, snap counts show the Bucs didn’t sub at all on the back end — six LB/DBs played every snap, and Tampa Bay was in nickel (with three safeties) on 57 of 69 snaps. Only played 16 guys total on defense.

Snap counts are out for Bucs-Cowboys, and Tampa Bay leaned heavy on Leonard Fournette on Sunday, playing him on 76 percent of the offensive snaps.

little nervous about Godwin. hamstrings linger

Julio moving up the all time receiving yard from 17 to 16. Fingers crossed he can stay healthy. If he plays at least 15 games, he'll have well over a 1000 yards and will move to the top 10.

Evans is still way down there moving from59 to 58.

Godwin has missed a few games almost every season. I think it's OK as it also gives him more time to heal the knee.

Yes, Bucs did well to have just five penalties for 25 yards. All pre-snap though (three false starts, two offsides) -- only the Jaguars had more pre-snap flags in Week 1.

Britt set the tone for a strong night on kick coverage for Bucs, dropping Turpin at the 14-yard line on the opening kickoff. Dallas had nine drives start off kickoffs and punts, and none of them started better than their 25-yard line. Dominant night on field position.

Bucs receiver Russell Gage, appreciating the little things in his Tampa Bay debut: "This is my first time going 1-0 for me, so it's very awesome." In his four years in Atlanta, Falcons came out of the gates 1-4, 1-7, 0-5 and 1-3 ...

What an interesting game. Overall, I feel better about the Bucs than I did all offseason. Their offense has plenty of talent but of course the Oline injuries are really concerning. Loved what I saw from the D. DBs looked really strong. Good pass rush too. Should be interesting to see how they do at NO who always seems to have their number.

I see that game as an L. Oline will still be meshing

I am not so sure. No Sean Payton is big. They almost lost to Atlanta yesterday. I think they do enough on O to score enough points because their D is playing so well. It would be huge to beat NO at their place so early in the season.

I'd have to see it to believe it. Saints D always give TB O problems

They do but the Bucs have a dynamic offense with Jones now. The Oline scares me of course but I think they will look to run like they did last night. They have enough to win it but man, we'll see. I hope their D plays like it did last night and stays aggressive.

I will give you this though last year they should've beaten them when they played at New Orleans. They put up 27 points but had a bunch of penalties and rare choke throw by Brady

Yeah. That was a frustrating game.

I did have the NO penciled in as a loss but based on what I saw last night from the D especially, I feel pretty good about it. Plus, Brady looked real good when he had time. Hopefully he has some time vs NO. A big hope.

Godoeke seems like he's going to be a mauler in the run game. his pass protection remains to be seen

Yeah the Bucs secondary is healthy this time and the Saints Oline is not as strong. We shall see

Nice win for the Bucs. Overall good week 1 too with the Rams, 49ers and Packers all losing.

Regarding the game, I think the biggest takeaway is Dallas may not be that good. Particularly on offense, their quarterback play was awful and now Prescott is out. Beyond Lamb, who even had a bad game, their receiving corps looks pretty bad. Their defense is very good and they gave the Bucs some problems.

Fournette had a nice game, good run-blocking from the o-line however the pass-protection wasn't great. Parsons is a beast. Brady looked like himself for the most part, I think you could see the pass rush got in his head a bit (he was backing away on a few of his throws). The pick tarnished his night but otherwise he played decently... still has a lot of zip on his throws. Great catch by Evans on the TD. Godwin's health obviously is a concern. Gage didn't do much. And Jones had a nice game but you can see he's lost some of his athleticism.

Saints are going to give them a tough game. Assuming Godwin is out they'll need more production in the passing game from their TEs and RBs. One catch from their TEs... that's not going to work. I assume Bernard was inactive so they may want to rethink that and get him involved in some passing situations. Only two targets for the rookie White.

It has been 8 months from the end of last season to this season. That's a long time for a 45yo. The zip in Brady's throws and his deep balls was what I was really looking at. He passed with flying colors.

I never really watched Julio before but he looked like a WR1 to me. I figured that he would lose some atheletism in which case peak Julio would have caught that 2nd deep ball that he couldn't hold on to.
