Patriots Player Departure Official 2021 Cutdown Day Thread

We need someone who can play effectively in week 1 after Harry goes to IR. That would be Wilkerson or Zuber, even though less talented players.
Why do the Patriots need more than 4 WR on the PRO Roster if they are going with 2TE sets primarily? Especially when they are unlikely to pull Smith or Henry off the field for a WR?

They need someone on the PS who could step up in the event of an injury or as an additional Game Day Activation. But that could be anyone with the new rules.

I think there are still some guys on the bubble who could go to bring in new options...
Bolden
King
Winovich
Harry (to IR) to bring back Hoyer.

Can't believe Harry is on the team and Wilkerson is gone....
once he goes on IR, they might bring back Wilkerson - at least to the PS. Just hope he doesn't get nabbed. I think he could be a good insurance policy. He sure did a lot more than Agholor this preseason

He sure did a lot more than Agholor this preseason
Lots of Agholor in all of the practice sessions. Highest paid WR on the roster - veteran - pretty much the definition of "know what they have".

Patriots preseason games vs joint practice sessions - which one is considered higher "value" in decision making? BB said himself - joint practice remains his truer barometer.

Also, given that preseason games are more for evaluation of the bottom of the roster - and Algholor is pretty much a lock as a starter - how many plays do you think were being called for him specifically during those preseason games? I'm going to guess not many if any.

BTW his snap count - 0 vs Wash; 9 vs Eagles and 14 vs Giants.

They weren't using him in the preseason games because they know what they have from practice! So why jump to conclusions that he's not going to be used/useful in the regular season and already trying to replace him????

The lust for $22M per year WRs in this place continues to amaze me. Why not see if that is actually a bona fide need after a couple regular season games before discarding the entire current roster?

Harry is better than Wilkerson.

Worst: Donte Stallworth

Harry is worst buddy.... And that's pretty bad...

Nobody could believe Stallworth’s catching abilities on the college football field. With the University of Tennessee he earned the name “Hands” and his 1,747 yards run put him in the top ten best the school had ever seen. After playing a few decent seasons as a pro with the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints, Stallworth joined the Pats in March of 2007.

His first stint with New England was only for one season, thanks to the stipulations in his contract regarding underperformance. Although he played every game that season, he managed only three touchdowns, 46 receptions, and 15.2 receiving yards per reception, making it his worst season to date. In 2012 when he re-signed with the Pats, it was a very rocky road; he signed in March, was released in August, and then signed again in December when Julian Edelman broke his right foot. Only eight days later, however, Stallworth himself sustained an ankle injury. He’d played one game! Talk about a disappointment.

I agree. If Harry is on IR and one of the top 3 gets hurt...I think we will need another WR. PS is ok. I'm pulling for Wilkerson if no big names are released from other teams.

Cuts whom the Pats could bring to the PS:
Wilkerson -WR
Zuber - WR
Gant - S
Bryant - CB/S
Sherman -OL
Ferentz - OC/OG
Bill Murray - DT
Jacob Hollister - TE
Calvin Munson - LB
Rashad Berry TE/DE
Ben Mason - FB/TE
Shaquem Griffin - LB
Cre'Von LeBlanc - CB
Isaiah Coulter - WR
Keke Coutee - WR
Ryan Izzo - TE
Hjalte Froholdt - OL
Craig James - CB
Jahlani Tavai - LB
Chris Hogan - WR
Wayne Gallman - RB

I'm sure that @BaconGrundleCandy, @reamer or some of the other Draft guys can weigh in on guys they'd like to see here.

Do we know Harry is going on IR? Based upon the original projection he was due back around week 1.

John Brown was released from the Raiders.

I’m pretty excited to watch the Pats new weapons. They all seem healthy and ready for game one. Besides Henry, Smith, Agholor & Bourne, we’ve added Stevenson and a 2nd year jump from Taylor & Asiasi. I saw someone say Jones is like a point guard in basketball, he distributes to his weapons. Well that’s a good analogy, he should have guys open almost every play. Plus a great run game, James White is still one of the premier pass catching backs in football. A very good young slot receiver in Meyers. I can see Meyers catching 80 this year. Add in an excellent Oline.

I know people say Jones had better weapons in college, but not when it comes to the TE position, and this offense will run through it’s TE’s. There will be the usual hiccups for Jones throughout his rookie season, but he has very solid weapons.

Add in a very improved defense, the one weakness is at #1 corner, but that may only be for half the season, and if they can get consistent pressure from their front 7, it’s less pressure on the DBs.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Belichick is going with youth in some key positions. Young, hungry players is better to have than old, complacent players.

Think of how many key players have come from the last 3 drafts, on both sides of the ball.

John Brown was released from the Raiders.
Yeah I saw that...my problem with that is he is 31. I feel that's too old to get the playbook and be effective with no TC or preseason. Yes he could be an outlier but it's rare.

Wow - that's some revisionist history without any context. The loaded 2007 team:

Moss: 98 catches
Welker: 112 catches
Faulk: 47 catches
Watson: 36 catches
Various catches: Thomas, K. Brady, Morris, etc

But it's not that there simply wasn't enough offense to go around (nor did there need to be) - no, Stallworth just sucked.

His teammates and coaches both raved about how he accepted and played well within his reduced role given the firepower across the rest of the offense (which was pretty balanced with Faulk and Watson in addition to Stallworth given the massive impacts of Moss and Welker). He also had some clutch receptions during that undefeated run.

More fantasy football pure statistical baloney masquerading as football understanding.

You may be right for the short term. I think the WR position is thin and also needs needs upgrading still. It will be interesting to see who they sign.
