Offensive Line worries...Lack of depth... Hope they address this...

Thomas has a base salary of $8m for this year and is not a swing tackle, so this would be a tough fit for him here.

However, I don't know what our cap is at this point and beyond, and am not going to even bother to pretend I know what it is.
Find a way. He's durable and a great Tackle and his gardening skills could be an asset as well.

We have about 3 mil in cap space

Joe Thomas is arguably the best LT in the NFL. Not being a swing-tackle is probably the least of his problems.

How would we fit him in here with one year on Solder's contract? I am not against us trying to pull it off because if we do, we will have a very good LT through 2018.

Trade Solder in the off-season? Switch him to RT? Or not trade for Joe Thomas which is the obvious answer.

Even if he is on IR, his salary still counts against the cap. Who do we then cut/trade to make more room for Thomas?

One other thing we could do is do a trade with a renegotiation of his contract, same as we did with Moss. Convert some of this year's salary into a signing bonus.

We have great depth on the line, just a LOT of guys are hurt. I'm pretty confident we'll have a quality line with whoever they plug in there until everyone gets healthy. I think it's overall just a really bad idea to spend quality picks + cap room on a position we've probably been the best in the league at drafting and developing. Spend that cap room on re-signing our own guys and draft our own linemen like we've been doing.

Pats could also extend/restructure someone to free up space

joe thomas??? pipe dream..guy is the best LT in the league. man, that would be crazy if they somehow pulled that off.

thomas/vollmer protecting tb12 wow!!

It's a nice thought but I'd be totally shocked if they made a run at him. 8x Pro-Bowler and 5x All-Pro. 8.8 mil per salary and signed thru 2018.

More worried about the OL than our secondary...

What to do?

It is not lack of depth but lack of health that is the problem.

OT - Solder Vollmer Cannon Flemming
OG - Mason Jackson Kline Wendell
C - Stork Andrews

All of these players have done well for the Pats this season in general. I just want as many of them back healthy as possible. OT be a spot to look at perhaps cause Flemming and Cannon have proved the least but so far so good.

I am not worried about the OL. I am worries about one of our corners going down.

We now need somebody who can play LT if Vollmer is hurt.

And please, do not suggest Marcus Cannonfodder.
