Ochocinco won't be cut: here is proof

Wierd, I was actually coming in here to agree he most likely won't be cut, but I was going to hold off on ordering his jersey until the final 53 was settled

The Patriots have NEVER cut a newly acquired veteran (or drafted rookie) before the season starts whose jersey is available in the team's pro shop. Not that I ever thought Chad was in danger of not making the team, but this should dispel any of the media speculation we've read. This might seem silly to some but it's a business after all, and I have a pretty good hunch that more than guesswork goes into what otherwise would seem a minor thing.

No Haynesworth jersey has been offered yet. Hmm ...
Aside from the business decisions versus football decisions aspect, I have been under the distinct impression that profits from all apparel sales are split equally between all 32 NFL teams. If I recall correctly the only distinction is for apparel sold at home on the day of the game - i.e., the team also gets to keep additional cut probably to offset the expense of the people they have to hire to run those kiosks.

Now I'm not 100% sure that is correct, but I am pretty sure that I read that somewhere during all the CBA talk over the last couple of years. If correct - and I'm pretty sure I am - it would refute the oft-repeated theory that teams acquire a player with the idea that he'll make money for that team based on the projected sales of licensed merchandise.

All I can say is the pattern of what I've observed happening over the last 18 years in the pro shop. But I think what you're talking about is unrelated to that. I recall a similar situation during Randy Moss's first training camp in '07. They started selling Moss gear immediately.

Also, it would be bad PR for the team to push a new player's gear -- which, as we all know can get quite pricey -- and then cut him. That's why I believe there is some understanding between the football side and the marketing side about what should be expected. That also is why I think there's no Haynesworth jersey available (yet).

do they sell this one? I want to buy it and put it on a tackling dummy and affix it to the floor in front of Albert's locker..

Look at it this way - Chad's pre-season numbers are MUCH better than Moss' in 2007 - and Moss had a pretty good 2007 season... so I'd say that bodes well for Chad as well!

All these annual discussions and commentary about who will or won't make the roster can now be considered obsolete. Going forward what Miguel is to the Pats salary cap, is now the guy who manages inventory at an online retail store is to the Pats post-training camp roster; looking forward to his breaking news and following him on twitter. Sorry mgteich, but you've been replaced.

No, he won't be cut. BB has already given word through channels to the marketing department that he's on the team. Book it.

I think there is zero chance Belichik discusses his final roster with the marketing department.

I wonder if the Reebok stock boy has the same influence on Rex......hmmm...inquiring minds want to know:rocker:

Is Lee Smith's jersey available yet?

I've presented you with evidence to the contrary. If you have something to refute that, other than an opinion, let us know.

This ocho being cut crap came from jets fans..guess they were right on this one

Well you havently really showed that he does at all. What you have shown is that marketing is a good indicator on players being cut.

I mean its always a difficult task to examine what variable which can explain an outcome.

My thought would be that marketing, being in the organisation, has some feel about what player jerseys they should put on hold for a while. Doesnt mean they know, just that they know which to not make right now.

Although statistics usually points the right way so your final conclusion might be right but you cant prove it

In a court of law, conclusive evidence is just as good as proof. :rocker:

Lynch jerseys were available for almost half way thru the season, maybe a little longer, after he got cut prior to the start of the Regular Season.

There was no chance of either one being cut as soon as they renegotiated the contracts.

If they were going to cut the guys, they wouldn't have renegotiated, and gave them bonuses.

You absolutely have not presented evidence showing BB discusses roster changes preemtively with the marketing department.

You've shown a single coincidence. Other's have shown players whose jerseys were available and were cut before the season started.

The simplest explanation is usually correct, and the simplest explanation is that the marketing department thinks they can sell a lot of Ochocinco jerseys
