As some one already pointed out this could of been a huge deal if Rhodes had not laughed this off, This could of blown up in the Jets face.
As it is, this is just a nice little diversion for us. Cimini has some explaining to do.

I don't recall any of the "ladies" on this list slamming Thomase. It was and is males.

Try to come up with an insult that doesn't slander half the world's population.

Got your panties a little twisted, do you? You'll be okay in a couple of days.

The general implicit disrespect towards women that's rampant among some posters on this board is really shocking. You wouldn't think that they have mothers, sisters, girlfriends, wives. Actually, it's pretty sad to consider that they have female relatives/spouses. It really does illustrate the the continued existence of sexism in America is as much, if not more, a result of the actions of women (putting up with and encouraging such behaviour) as it is the result of actions by men.

Agreed. Just a bunch of cackling hens!

Oops.

My apology to any poultry I've offended.

Oh, no. Not that again. By the way, is your favorite band "See You Next Tuesday?"

LOL, the LAST thing I am on here (or anywhere else) is a tough guy. I just call people out on their B.S., just as vyrago and 1996 have (appropriately) done to me and my ridiculously lame and, FWIW, generally uncharacteristic misogyny.

OK guys, enough.

Let's hate on Cimini, not each other.

Re: NY Daily News' Rich Cimini takes SI report out of context, makes up BB quote

I knew this story rang false...that quote doesn't sound like anything BB would ever say.

A big ole nonstory. Cimini is a total tool.

Newsflash: When one of us guys calls another guy a girly girl, he is not insulting womenhood, any more than you are insulting every single man in the world when you describe another women as butch or something to that effect. It isn't animal abuse to call a guy a tiger or puppy, and it just isn't insulting womanhood if I say another guy is acting like a girl.

It doesn't bother us if one girl insults another girl, why are you so upset when guys insult each other. We don't even mean it. It's just teasing when we say that they are acting ... well, like you are acting now.

Just chill out and wait until you're really insulted to have your hissy fit.

(I'm assuming you are a female. If you are male, stop being such a nancy. No offense to anyone named Nancy.)

Correct. When we mean girl, we mean a certain kind of girl. Picture Mrs. Howell from Gilligan's Island.

I think you'll agree that woman has no place on a football forum.

I proudly emailed Mr. Cimini and bcc'd it to [email protected].

Do your duty.

For someone being a beat writer for the past 11 years, I am surprised that Cimini doesn't even know how to read. May be its the NY water.

Whoa...take it easy...there are Pats fans all over the world, even in NYC...

Change it to Jets koolaid...

As for some people (me) even in Indiana.

Rich Cimini is an idiot

I see everyone on the Jets board is getting in a tizzy because Cimini said BB provided the Jets with some bulletin board material. I haven't actually seen the Cimini article, but if he did say Bill said Rhodes couldn't make his team then Cimini can't read. If he actually could read he would have comprehended that it was a hypothetical situation proposed by King, not a real quote.

"I believe Rhodes comes closest to Ed Reed (12), the best impact safety in the game, and I believe Peters, a converted tight end, will be an All-Pro within two years. So I wouldn't move them down even if Bill Belichick called and said, "Neither of those guys could make my team."

No worries, this is one of those hectic board days that run posts off the front page faster then you can post.

Yep.

And, yes, he is an idiot. How he could read what he did and get out of it what he did is unimaginable.

Rushing To Fan The Flames
This might be old news to some of you, as this matter was hashed out on message boards all over the place over the holiday weekend, but in his haste to stir up the "border war" between the Patriots and Jets, New York Daily News writer Rich Cimini made a total ass of himself when he published this article on Saturday.

In the piece he attributes a quote to Bill Belichick that appeared in Peter King's article on the Top 500 Players in the NFL.

King wrote:

Most told me I was loony to have Rhodes ranked in the 20s and Bills tackle Jason Peters in the 30s. I believe Rhodes comes closest to Ed Reed (12), the best impact safety in the game, and I believe Peters, a converted tight end, will be an All-Pro within two years. So I wouldn't move them down even if Bill Belichick called and said, "Neither of those guys could make my team."
So Cimini takes that quote, runs breathlessly to Rhodes, and presents it to him. The Jets safety is incredulous, and gets a big laugh out of the quote, and notes that the Patriots are up next on the schedule for the Jets. Cimini then writes the above article on the episode, noting that Belichick "usually is careful about not providing bulletin-board fodder to the opponent." he concludes by saying "Another subplot for an already juicy rivalry."

Did you catch the problem with the above?

Belichick never told King anything about Rhodes or Peters. King writes that he would keep those players ranked where he had them even if Bill Belichick called him.

The supposed Belichick quote even made the Florida Times Union's weekend NFL notes. (Ironically, right above a correction about another story.)

Cimini was appraised of his mistake, which resulted in a generic retraction by the Daily News, and a mea culpa by Cimini in his Jets blog late Saturday afternoon.

However, the issue was big enough that King himself felt compelled to comment on it in his Monday Morning Quarterback column, and notes:

"Geez. And you wonder sometimes why guys like Belichick treat us like vermin."

In a rather rare moment of clarity, Peter King nails it. The danger of rushing to jump on any shred of controversy or conflict is clearly illustrated by this episode. Would the rush be so great if it were any other coach in the NFL?
