I don't think most fans are done with Harry. I think most intelligent fans are looking at the fact he was out 1/2 the season last year with injury, and was playing with an injured Brady for the remainder of the season and giving him a pass on that. This year, with no preseason games Cam coming in late, Cam going out with Covid, and no practice for 2 weeks and are saying, it is still pretty early to judge. Except for the Buck fans that run over from their special place on the site to tell us how great Brady is and that it was all BB's fault.

This is what drives me crazy. Deebo just looked like the perfect Patriot. Quick and versatile. Instead we went with Harry who just didn't look like a Patriots receiver at the time and definitely hasn't fit.

I had a man crush on AJ Brown before the draft.. He was one of the larger receivers in the draft and seemed like a sure fire starter

Its really the most cringy draft of a position I can ever remember in the BB era, when looking at all the WRs taken after Harry in hindsight... its a really tough pill to swallow, with this team is so starved for talent on offense

Dead on the money.

The Homers will argue otherwise.

Harry has some limitations for the NFL due to a lack of speed. He will never be a separation receiver who can get open against NFL cornerbacks. He is going to constantly struggle to find space from man coverage, as the defenders will be able to run with him easily and keep him from getting open. Thus, he won't be a threat to stretch the field with speed, he will struggle to get open underneath, and he is not explosive enough to get separation via route-running. 2019 NFL Draft Scouting Report: N'Keal Harry

N’Keal Harry is a big, physical WR with outstanding ball skills. He attacks the ball at the highest point. He surprised me at the Scouting Combine by running a 4.53 forty. He is not that fast when you watch him on film. He has a tough time creating separation and needs to improve as a route runner. He is a possession wideout at the next level. He should be drafted somewhere on day 2.

ugh..hurts so bad peeling the layers back on this onion

wtf was BB thinking with this guy?

A snippet from a scouting report on AJ Brown: 2019 NFL Draft Scouting Report: A.J. Brown
What really sets Brown apart is what he can do as a possessional receiver. Brown is a dangerous wideout who is not a burner with rare speed, but he makes up for it with polish and physicality. With good route-running and strong, reliable hands, Brown is a chain mover who does the dirty work in the short to intermediate part of the field.

STRENGTHS

—Natural athlete who easily brings in the ball away from his frame, makes clean cuts in his route tree and is a capable runner with the ball in his hands.

—Run-after-catch is impressive, where you see his combination of 226 pounds and 4.49 speed. Will look to go over defenders if a running lane isn't open.

—Does not allow press coverage to slow him coming off the line of scrimmage, using hand-fighting ability and hurry-up speed to get into his route.

—Quick, explosive route-runner who can beat defensive backs with strength or silky moves; one of the top route-runners in the class with some JuJu Smith-Schuster-like moves working from the slot.

—Excellent all-around athlete who was selected in the 19th round of the MLB draft by the San Diego Padres.

This messageboard could find at least 1 WR worth keeping if given the chance.

I know very little about college ball, scouting, etc...

but I was all over Calvin Ridley a couple years ago, I kept getting him in all my mocks and fell in love with him.. the Pats really needed WR help and they had a shot at him. Hard to get upset because that is the year they got Wynn i think, who was an excellent pick.. but I was right on Ridley

I had a huge man crush on AJ Brown before last year's draft, he seemed like a sure bet to be a legitimate NFL talent and he checked off all the boxes that they were looking for when they targeted NKeal, only AJ Brown was a way more polished and NFL ready receiver

Really one of the biggest draft blunders in recent memory, given the dire need there is at WR and TE on this team.. to miss so spectacularly with the Harry pick is a travesty that will set this team back

When armchair QBs like me who don't know much about the college game, and certainly dont understand the Xs and Os depth like other posters do, can spot sure fire NFL talent at WR and our front office cant... something is wildly wrong here

(ps. yes i understand being a GM is more than drafting a WR... but its pretty horrific to miss so spectacularly on a WR in the 1st round, who had a consensus from scouts on being a raw talent.. when there were like 7 other WRs drafted immediately after him, many of which were consensus NFL ready talent and all have produced for their teams... wowzers... that is very deserving of criticism and an explanation)

Yeah what made AJB my #1 WR in that class was his combination of experience/versatility/production (showing his football smarts), his combination of high volume/high average his last two years in school (again showing his versatility), clean bill of health, arm length/hand size, checked all the athletic boxes (except for height I suppose) and has baseball athleticism to boot (hand/eye coordination, foot speed/quickness)...

It's funny how Tom's inability to practice with these guys is an "excuse," but Cam not practicing for two weeks is a valid.
Feel free to quote where I said that Cam’s inability to practice for two weeks was “a valid.” Happy hunting.
Over the final six games of 2019 Tom completed roughly 56% of his passes at 6 yards per attempt. He was injured (not an opinion)
You have no clue how injured he was.
he wasn't practicing
So what? He spent 20 years in the offense. How much practice do you think the guy needs with a new receiver? I don’t seem to remember him having similar issues at the outset of the 2018 and 2019 season with new receivers in the offense. Like with Cam, this is a shoddy excuse. Even more so when considering it’s Brady you’re talking about.
he was disgruntled because of what went on during the season with AB and Sanu, he had already run Meyers off the field after a two game stretch where Meyers caught 9-9 targets and played well... but Tom really wanted more Sanu.
Meyers is a red herring. Completely irrelevant to the convo. But since you’ve gone there, I’ll just point out that Meyers was SO GOOD last year, and so unfairly treated by Brady, that he’s ridden the pine this season up until last week when Harry got injured. It couldn’t be that he just isn’t very good either, could it? Nahh.

In short, last years offense to finish the year was toxic at best and the passing attack anemic.
There’s a good reason for that. I’ll give you a hint - it’s one of the main reasons this years passing attack is anemic.

I'm not even here saying Harry, Byrd, Meyers, Gunner or Zuber are amazing, I'm saying they can't be judged unless someone starts throwing better.
Ahh, okay. So basically, we just need to find someone who is going to be better than Tom Brady to throw them the ball before they can be judged? Sure thing.

I believe if this messageboard was afforded the task of finding the Patriots a WR with a 4th round pick that we could do it.

Well, Harry did it. The hit wasn't to Harry's head, but he managed to be out against the Bills on his way to a payday while on IR. The sooner he is gone the better. He won't have to be baby sat.

Feel free to point out how injured Brady was... why do I have to? He wasn't practicing, fact... Stidham was getting all the practice snaps.

And no maybe Brady didn't need practice, but do you know who did... especially with Tom, the rookie weapons. The rookie weapons looked great with Stidham and Hoyer... Stidham and Hoyer didn't play. Practice matters, N'Keal coming back for the final 5 games with no practice matters.

The narrative that "Brady couldn't make these weapons good" isn't accurate, 2019 was snake bit. AB, Sanu, TE and FB health, the O-Line getting injured... there were a myriad of reasons why this passing offense wasn't good last year. Football doesn't happen in a vacuum or without context. This isn't a video game with the injury option turned off.

Meyers is Brandon Lafell or a young Sanu, both of whom if open could get yards, move the chains. In 2014 Lafell caught 74 balls for 953 yards 12.9 yards per attempt and 7 TD's.The first thing you need to recognize is how horrid Cam Newton has played. An average or "good" weapon is still dangerous, can still do something and Harry, Byrd and Edelman are still better than Meyers and they have been in witness protection since the Raiders game. Cam sucks... period.

Harry did it, he got a payday on IR. No more, whatever, just get paid for nothing.

He's totally exposed without Brady. This looks like his league worst offense he ran with the Rams

I get tired of posting the reasons the Pats are where they are at. One of those reasons isn't McDaniels. He made Brady just like Belichick did. Brady benefited from their teachings. Brady did have some talent.

Looks like Brady is fine now without McD and was also fine when he won his first 3 rings without McD. On the other hand McDaniels looks like a total disaster without Tom Brady. This season, in St Louis, and in Denver.

the lack of talent on offense may have something to do with this.

look at some of the some replacements we have recently drafted on offense and you begin to see the real problem.

1.) qb- stidham. Aka the turnover machine.

2.) rb - Michel. Not exactly the patriots version of emit smith.

3.) wr - Harry. Basically all the mobility of a fire hydrant.

4.) te - izzo, Keene and Assisi. That is uglier than a goddell family reunion!

5.) ol - frodholtz and cajuste. Not exactly day 1 starters.

one cold hard fact is irrefutable. It is hard to win in the nfl without a franchise qb!
