You can't make coaches appear out of nowhere. If the NFL was serious, they'd be starting with outreach to communities of color, provide seminars w/ college coaches for hs/youth coaches. Help foster the type of relationships that lead to employment opportunities.

The NFL could fix a lot of issues around college athletes and pay. They could provide housing scholarships, grants for laptops, etc. Easy things to make life easier for students.

They don't. They don't actually care. Its plainly evident through how little thought or reason go into the ideas that leak out of that circus. They will, however, spend years and millions trying to prove the GOAT had something to do with natural physics phenomenon on a cold day in january.

And the NFL is nexk and neck with the NBA for worst league. A shame, as they easily have the best game. The current iteration is borderline unwatchable. Bogus 5 yd illegal contact penalties have more to do with winning than anything.

And with that, why shouldn't the NFL reward minority hires? It's not like they can do more damage to their product, right?

Or with a prospect like T law or Luck coming out. Would a team picking 2nd be able to jump a team picking first overall?

The vast majority of nfl hcs began their coaching career in their early 20s. By the time a player finishes his career at say 31 they are somewhere around 8 years behind a career coach.
It’s the equivalent of saying that if a man and woman both start working at a law firm and the man takes 8 years off to raise his children then he should be on equal footing with the woman to make partner and it would be discriminatory to consider her more qualified because of 8 more years of experience and accomplishments.

I like the idea of the proposal, but not the actual proposal itself. It is a conversation starter and should be a useful tool to get a better outcome than the Rooney Rule. Maybe a digger deep into the issue (if there is one) will emerge because of this proposal. There is a chance that the actual number of minority candidates is not as large of a number as the % of minorities in this country. More info is needed, but I like the idea of making sure the "good ole' boy" network isn't a substantial reason for the low percentage of minority hires. Good discussion everyone.

Your second proposal seems to fit under the NFL's proposal.

Your first one needs some work. So, if a team agrees to start a white CB 50% of the snaps and doesn't follow through because of injury or poor performance, do they still meet the requirement? Also, define "white CB". Try again please, you are close.

The proportion of black HCs has been mostly at or above the % of the population.
You chastise the browns for having a white HC without recognizing that he replaced a black HC who went 3-36 and had hired him.

It’s not black HC vs white HC. It’s coaches being hired that ownership feels are the best candidates. The representation of black HCs is not below their proportion of the population or of the candidates.
