NFL, St. Louis settle for $790 million

Just a reminder the goal of settling here and now was to prevent STL from getting ALL of the NFLs financial documents for all 32 teams as part of discovery. The NFL has been specifically fighting to prevent this for a while, and failed.

Kroenke signed legal documents to indemnify the other 31 owners in the move, and said he intended to renegg on that, but you know, probably can't do so legally. Most if not all of this settlement will fall on Kroenke.

All that drama, and this is the result? Huh. I thought it would be a bigger number, given the relative value of a single franchise.
As some article noted, by doing it through a settlement, the city gets the money essentially now. If it had gone to trial, they might get more money, but it could take years (as Kroenke et al. would likely appeal any verdict against them). Or they might end up with a USFL-style decision where they win the case but get far less money.

Florio speculated Kroenke is trying to get out of that financial commitment on a technically. Basically, according to Florio, the document he signed said he would take care of all legal costs but did not specifically mention the settlement amount itself.

Right, but at the end of the day, 1 owner suing the other 32 is not going to end well for the 1. Regardless of the courts rulings, a majority vote by the owners could really f up Kroenke. They have never done it, but they could force Kroenke out if they decided to.

Hell, I'm sure they could just leak a couple of his chain emails with Papa John if they really want to play dirty.

Goodell's salary is inexplicable. No other employer is competing to hire this walking embodiment of mediocrity, comms. degree moron. Makes you wonder if Goodell has Epstein level dirt on some of these owners.
Goodell is the owners' fall guy.
He's a former jete.
He's the son of a politician.
He has a slimy look that makes him perfect for the job.

That is highly doubtful. Just because there is a clause saying a 3/4th majority can vote another owner out doesn't mean such a clause could withstand legal scrutiny.

That would be interesting to see....

30 billionaires ( and one public corp PAckers) are not likely to be pleased if Kroenke tries to stiff them for $25 million each . He may get out of paying but I guarantee they will make his ownership life miserable if he does......

Well it sure looks like he's going to try to do precisely that. Whether or not he succeeds remains TBD.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at the next owner's meeting....
