NFL MUST investigate dubious officiating at Colt home games

Watching the Charger game was deja vu all over again.
Reminded me of the Patriot game earlier this year when EIGHT highly questionable calls/non-calls ALL went the Colts way.
Same thing happened yesterday with the Chargers. Refs did everything humanly possible to throw the game the Colts way. They also tried and failed to job the Steelers a couple of years ago with yet another mysterious PI call in a playoff game.
This nonsense has got to stop! Makes the league look really really bad.
What is going on in Indy that makes so many game officials sully themselves with such shocking frequency?? Doesn't smell right!!!

You are right they should, but they will bury it. They slam the Patriots for videotaping, but when it comes out that the Jets did, all we heard was "yeah, but we got permission", and NOTHING was followed up. These phantom calls in favor of the Colts game after game continues to be hard to watch, but nothing will be done about it. I guarantee nothing will be done about it.

Start with Polian. It all begins and ends there.

Exactly -little known fact, Polian is the majority share holder of Footlocker... they all depend on him for their weekday jobs.

There was a game a couple of years ago (Maybe the game where McGuinest stuffs James at the goal line on 4th down?) and Ed Werder of ESPN was on the sidelines reporting live after the game saying that he was wondering if the NFL was going to investigate "The sound of the crowd noise coming through the PA system". Since he was live at the time, there was no chance for ESPN to cut it but Werder was saying "it was obvious".

My dad swears that when Don Shula was on the competition committee, Miami was never flagged. He thinks the same is true with Polian.
:singing: same with my Dad. It looks like they are right.

I agree with you all. The PI call, I forget who it was on, took the cake. I could not believe my eyes and if I was a chargers fan I would have been pissed.

Something has to be done here with the officiating and the Colts. I was thinkink it was just because I am a NE fan was the reason I was biased. BUt the Charger game was absolutely brutal.

Mike P., something has to be done. You want your officials to have SOME intregity, or are they just the messengers?

You tell us....

How hard would it be to rotate memebrship on the competition committee every 2-3 yrs to prevent this entitlement mentality???????

The phantom PI call was just awful but my favorite let's-fix-this-game-for-the-Colts moment came when the Colts were flagged for Illegal Contact. Austin talks it over with the other refs then walks out toward the sideline to announce the penalty. He flips his mic on and starts to speak but suddenly is buzzed (maybe by the buzzer used for booth reviews?) or something, becaused Austin mysteriously stops in mid-sentence, turns his mic off then walks over to a ref from the far sideline. Oops, bingo, no foul - Rivers now was supposedly out of the pocket when the contact occured thus no penalty, denying the Bolts a critical automatic 1st down (I think this was drive where Keading bonked the upright).

Getting the call right, or shamelessly finding a way to help the Colts? Seemed like the latter to me...

LOL, I had to take that shot! Oh, everyone recognizes that the Patriots cheated in the first Jets game. They could have beat the Jets without cheating but they still cheated.
So if they just stood there and took notes, thats not cheating right? maybe the fans also turn their backs and not see the signals, so they dont know exactly whats about to happen

moron

Possible refs for this Sunday's game?????
For what it's worth, the refs for last weekend's games were

Jerome Boger JAX@NE
Mike Carey SEA@GB
Pete Morelli NYG@Dallas
Gerald Austin SD@Indy

With Hoculi (TN@SD), Scott Green (JAX@PIT), Walt Anderson (NYG@TB), and Walt Coleman (WASH@SEA) already having done games this post season, the refs who could do the conference championships are......

Bill Carollo (did last year's AFCCG NE@ Indy)
Bill Leavy
Gener Steratore
Jeff Triplette (please no...)
John Parry ( after the Indy-NE debacle would they let him near anything again?)
Larry Nemmers
Ron Winter
Terry McAuley ( did last year's NFCCG)
Tony Corrente (not likely since he did last year's Super Bowl)
-------------
The NFL usually has a ref work one game a post-season but those that did a wild card game can ref the Super Bowl and it has happened 3 times in the last 7 years ( Kukar and Leavy and ??? IIRC)

Interesting list...it's unfortunate they can't just use a 4-team rotation during the playoffs dependent upon regular season performance. I'd love to see multiple games officiated by Hoculi, I think he's the best referee in the league.

Don't forget, Jeff Fisher is also a member of the committee, which made the ending to the Colts-Titans game in week 17 rather dubious. I think there's a small level of corruption in every major sport, there's just too much money involved to believe otherwise. However, there's also too much money for that to be investigated (at least internally), and the PR hit the league would take would be immense. I fully believe that Polian 'leans' on referee's in some way, shape or form...the number of TERRIBLE calls these past few years cannot be dismissed as simply poor officiating. The fact that they've all come at the RCA, during pivotal games (playoff games, division opponents, league rivals), and consistently favored the Colts (to a HUGE degree in some cases) is pretty damning evidence, imo.

I'm interested to hear more about the wink that the official supposedly gave Manning (someone referenced it a few pages back). Does anyone have a clip of this? It more than likely is nothing, but I'd like to see it none the less and didn't catch it during the game.
