NFL.COM ATN Video on Jimmy G's Next Destination

I'm a big fan of Around the NFL (ATN). To be sure like all media these days there's a lot of mirth and some strained narratives being thrown around, but in any case, here's a video where they talk about where they see Jimmy G winding up:

For those who don't want to watch it, bottom line is they all see the Pats getting a big haul of draft picks for Jimmy G. The one contrarian, Dan Hanzus, has this narrative that Father Time is gonna take Tommy down and so we need to keep Jimmy around, but he gets shot down pretty solidly by Chris Wesseling.

On the other hand, when you listen to folks like Mike Lombardi and other former GMs/scouts they don't see us getting the huge haul that many media types predict.

Actually, I'm a fan as well. FYI- These are 4 staff writers for nfl.com and they have 3 podcasts a week during the season, where they make predictions, discuss results, and league news. Hanzus is an unabashed Jet fan. Rosenthal is a Pats fan, Sessler is a Browns fan, and the other guy a Cinci fan, (or the other way around, I can't remember) so there is always a LOT of angst in the room except for Rosenthal, who sits on "the throne of ease".

Funny, entertaining and even informative at times, though Hanzus can get irritating when he is so depressed by the Jets he resorts to "cheating memes" to protect himself. But this is usually rare, and given he's a Jet fan, completely understandable.

That's what I've been saying all along. Jimmy G has been built up to be more than he really is but hell, that's fine by me. People are going to be shocked when he gets traded for a top 5 pick plus more. People are infatuated with the guy and th bidding war will be fierce due to the extreme lack of QBs available in the draft or FA.

Everything I hear from Lombardi has indicated a great haul. What's changed is that 3 teams want him.

Actually I probably mis-characterized what he said. When I listen to the clip below, however, I hear Mike being a lot more conservative than most media members. For instance, he talks about Brady being 40 years old, and keeping JG this year, then franchising him and either trading him then or keeping him next year too, just in case. He says that if you get the 12th pick in the draft you need to decide if the player available there is better than JG. However he also does mention the "king's ransom" that was paid for Goff and Wentz, and that JG will probably be a star.



The way I hear it, he's saying you really need to look at what the actual offer is, what player you can get for the pick(s), project what your actual QB situation is for the next two years, etc, before taking the deal. Lots of other media members seem to think it's a no brainer, especially if CLE offers the 12th pick. Mike is saying you need to look at who you get for that 12th pick and project how that player fits into your system and compare that to one or two more years of JG. Of course franchising him costs a lot, but it might seem cheap if there's an injury next year.

Chris Wesseling is bullish on the Pats getting a big haul.

The solution is to pay a premium price for an early-round talent incubated under the watchful eye of Belichick, Brady and quarterback guru Josh McDaniels.

The Browns are lousy with draft picks and cap space. Their offense is now run by one of football's most fertile minds. What they don't have is a face of the franchise under center.

The 49ers boast $80 million in cap space, extra picks in each of the final four rounds of the draft and a new head coach with a Midas quarterback touch.

Bears general manager Ryan Pace, a graduate of Garoppolo's Eastern Illinois, is sitting on the draft's No. 3 overall pick -- and a mandate to find Cutler's replacement.

When Hue Jackson, Kyle Shanahan and Pace pore over the game film, they're going to fall in love with Garoppolo.
