NE@ARI: The Surprise Factor

Anthony Johnson would be my pick if I were to make one. The Cards are softer on the interior and he should be able to consistently generate some push to move Palmer out of the pocket.

Plus Palmer has very little escapability, so generating interior pressure should lead to a sack or tow.

I think the biggest surprise for all non pats fans will be just how good this defense is. For a long time now it's been Brady's team and winning putting up 30 PPG so the perception is they are an offensive team. I do think it might be 14-3 cards after the first quarter but I think the coming out party will be the D shutting them out in the 2nd half with a couple turnovers setting the offense up to win. Not sure who specifically will make the huge game changing play but it's exciting to think I could rattle off 10 names and none of them would be laughed at. This is a deep fast athletic defense that will be a lot of fun to watch

Bruce Charles Arians said that Jimmy G reminds him of Tony Romo of all the comparisons now I am going to have to question his Football intelligence...I hope BB and McDaniels piles it on.

I hope Arians doesn't mean that if Jimmy gets bumped he will break some obscure body part that even doctors need to look up.

i browsed through some threads on azcardinals.com, and one poster mentioned that the patriots front 7 only had four good players at the end of last season, and two of them (jones, ninkovich) are gone for week 1 (i assume the other two he meant were collins and hightower). he's going to be surprised by sheard, long, flowers, mingo, a. johnson, and brown. also mentioned how the patriots secondary was "iffy" behind mccourty.

Seriously? Only 2 Good players on the front 7? This front is loaded. Yeah there are not a whole lot of "names" on it and sheard is probably the only one gonna break double digit sacks but every last one of them could be the game changer on any given week. Iffy secondary? Same thing yeah besides Butler there are no "names" but they are deep and talented. Those AZ fans are gonna be in for a rude awakening if they expect to easily put up 30+ points. I honestly expect the D to get 2-3 turnovers and make a HUGE statement. Take our QB away, no problem, we are STILL the patriots and will win as a team. Now kiss the rings!

This reminds me of a story about Geno Auriemma at UConn. During Diana Taurasi's first couple of years, when asked why the Huskies won so often, he would answer "We have Diana. They don't."

By the end of her tenure, it was "We're Connecticut. They're not."

the Cards OL is very suspect

no huddle 3-step dink and dunk will gas the Cards defense in no time, and then run all over them.......

at least Jimmy showed he's pretty damned good at that

The "surprise" will be Chandler Jones absolutely destroying the Patriots offense and will be a big reason why NE loses this game.

I can see CJ getting a sack or two since this is usually the time he gets a few. but lose the game..lol?

the Cards OL is very suspect

Surely you mean they SUCK, right?

Why are you forgetting Valentine? Was this on purpose? Are you trying to hide him until the game?

Weak sauce responses, gang. Arians is talking about game plan surprises. Just predicting a player that shows up well doesn't meet the challenge.

My prediction: offensive formations to run out of that they'd never use with Brady at QB, and defensive formations with just two guys with their hands on the ground.

Since nobody has actually seen how this teams starters actually play together. The surprise will be how easily the offense can move the ball.

Mental toughness. I think the Patriots are going beat the Cardinal by more than 2 TD's. Cardinal may have better talent but it takes more than talent to beat a good team like the Patriots. Cardinal's find a reason to loss and whereas Patriots find a reason to win.
