Michael Floyd and The Patriot Way

So sooo true:

For some reason people think the patriots way means only getting squeaky clean players, when it fact its actually means that we give players (with potential) second chances (in many cases their LAST chance) when they've screwed up and they're about to be out of the league.

It's worked at times and at times it hasn't, but I think to most NFL players, it means its their last chance to shine, cuz if they don't make it here, they're not going to make it anywhere else in the league and no other team is going to give them another chance.
Started with cutting Christian Peter a couple of days after drafting him.

Problem with Floyd is that its an alcohol addiction and no matter how many chances he gets, it won't stop until he gets real help. More than likely it seems he will go the 'Manziel' route. So in this case I think it unfortunately will not work out. Hope I'm wrong as he has serious potential to be huge for us.
You don't actually know if he does have an alcohol addiction or not. Two incidents 6 years apart might mean yes, might mean no. But if he was Johnny Manziel, he probably would have been out of the league 2 or 3 years ago.

Two incidents? In Six years? Think I read 6 incidents in the past 5 years all alcohol related... he's bascially Johnny Manziel without the fame.

The only other incident I was aware of was the DUI back at Notre Dame, but if you've recently read a story on some behind the scenes talk, please hook us up with a link. Thanks.

The Patriot Way (BB Way) is real but not the dimwit media narrative of it being a boy scout troop. The Patriot Way is study hard, practice hard, study hard, practice hard, no excuses for not studying hard and not practicing hard, shut up with nonsense and focus on studying-practicing-doing what is asked of you on any given play. Winning comes first. On the day after the game whether you won by 1 or 50 (or lost), study how you played and work on improving your play while shutting up with the nonsense and making zero excuses for your play in the game or in the dedication to studying and practicing.

Of course BB/the Patriots want their team/players to stay far away from attention grabbing trouble off field. Pretty much all teams want that and on that front the Patriots are more or less no different than the rest.

So because he had a DUI in 2011 and then got ****faced 5 years later he now has an alcohol addiction ?

Apart from spotty fan speculation on the Arizona boards connecting his drops to alcohol withdrawal there is nothing that even points into that direction. With Manziel you had beat writers often alluding to his "partying" but I have yet to see someone doing the same about Floyd.

Where ? Seriously.. where ?

2 incidents five years apart? And that means he has an addiction problem?

Great Lombardi's Ghost, man! If that's the standard for addiction then the entire US Navy would be enrolled in rehab. Permanently.

I'm not down-playing what he did. It was stupid and it's only by the grace of God that no one was injured. But it bears repeating: He's still a young man, and despite all the examples and coaching and mentoring and posters and commercials on TV, young men still do stupid things from time to time.

Let's see how this all plays out in court, in the locker room, and on the field. I suspect that Floyd has arrived at the best possible spot for his growth. He'll be held to a standard, surrounded by folks who want him to succeed, be given some of the very best coaching available, and if he's smart, he'll let his attorney(s) do what they do, and he will concentrate on what he does best.

I hope it works out for him. He can be a real asset to this team.

There is a Patriot way, as evidenced by other teams. When was the last time anyone on the Patriots spouted off on twitter after a loss about if they won an individual matchup, as Emmanuel Sanders did this week? When is the last time a player on offense/defense called out the other side of the ball for not carrying the load, like Denver did this week?

You'll never, ever see it. If anyone does it they'll be taken behind the woodshed. NO ONE is bigger than this team. If they try to be, they'll be sent to Cleveland or Arizona, sometimes for pennies on the dollar.

The Patriots don't cater to the media or the fans. They don't care about storylines or flash. The coaches are smarter than everyone else, and they demand it of their players. Anyone who doesn't live up to this expectation is let go, and anyone who fits stays, no matter what they've accomplished or failed at in the past.

The team comes before everything, with a clear example being laid week after week by the greatest player in the game and the greatest coach. Other teams try it, but they don't have the right people in place to sustain it over the long term.

I am so appreciative to be living in this golden age. There will come a day when they'll be just like any other team, with WR's spouting off, a QB who has a good run and demands to be the highest paid in the game, defensive players who try to dictate offensive plays, or defenses and offenses fighting it out in the locker room, and a head coach pretending to be a reporter to get a laugh out of the media during a telephone interview.

In the meantime, enjoy the ride. I have stopped questioning anything. If BB sees something in Floyd, it will work and 30 other teams will wonder again how they were outsmarted. If not, he'll be gone before he ever becomes a distraction to this team.

Knowing your place and just do your job. I know we say it all the time..but that's really what it comes down to..if every player on this team does their job...their 3 jobs in that one play..they that's the way

Buying into some moves or plays that us fans may not like..but knowing they will set up something bigger

Looks like he was arrested in 2009 for underage drinking, again in 2010 for underage drinking, and then his first DUI in 2011 with a .19 BAC

Irish WR Floyd suspended after arrest for DUI

Manziel refused professional help.

It's all up to Floyd (and the Patriots) on which path he takes.

Let's face it, the team took on more than just $1.3 million for the rest of the season when they picked him up.

hernandez ruined the aura of the patriot way.
Not really. They cut his ass as soon as they found out what he was up to. No questions asked, and no explanation allowed. I remember a story that he went to the facility (I think before they announced he was cut) and he couldn't get in.

I am hoping with Floyd, preferably before, but definitely after that video came out, that the team told him, here's your team AA sponsor and here's the list of meetings you'll attend if you want to stay on this team. If I was Floyd, that video would be the ultimate humiliation and wake-up call, but then again, I do not suffer from alcohol problems. I hope he can turn it around, personally and professionally.

I'd be simply happy if Floyd stays out of trouble for the next month and a half (if we make it to the super bowl) and really contribute. If he helps us win a title, that's great. Once the season ends, if he wants, he can go back to causing trouble. Just don't jeopardize our season.
