I don't understand. Love Mayo, love our defense. But we don't *know* who's really doing exactly what behind the curtain. I'm baffled when people speak with certainty about something that (to me) is anything but. We know Steve calls the plays. How they divvy up everything else is a mystery.Mayo is the future head coach of the NEP.
He has made Uche, a predominantly third down passing specialist who in college couldn’t crack into the starting lineup until his last year, into an every down defender.
Bentley enjoyed a strong season, perhaps his best.
And that poor player in Detroit has become…adequate. Tavai isn’t so bad anymore notwithstanding his physical limitations in pass coverage.
It’s the opposite of Nick Caley. Mayo took thin gruel and made a delicious stew.
No wonder the Krafts drew a line in the sand. Bill, you’re going to have to surpass Shula in another organization if you insist on keeping Stevie the de facto game day DC. Or you can name Mayo DC and your successor.
At 70 starting over isn’t in the cards. And he’s already given his sons a wonderful resume to build off.
What am I missing?
