Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

Mayo is the future head coach of the NEP.

He has made Uche, a predominantly third down passing specialist who in college couldn’t crack into the starting lineup until his last year, into an every down defender.

Bentley enjoyed a strong season, perhaps his best.

And that poor player in Detroit has become…adequate. Tavai isn’t so bad anymore notwithstanding his physical limitations in pass coverage.

It’s the opposite of Nick Caley. Mayo took thin gruel and made a delicious stew.

No wonder the Krafts drew a line in the sand. Bill, you’re going to have to surpass Shula in another organization if you insist on keeping Stevie the de facto game day DC. Or you can name Mayo DC and your successor.

At 70 starting over isn’t in the cards. And he’s already given his sons a wonderful resume to build off.
I don't understand. Love Mayo, love our defense. But we don't *know* who's really doing exactly what behind the curtain. I'm baffled when people speak with certainty about something that (to me) is anything but. We know Steve calls the plays. How they divvy up everything else is a mystery.

What am I missing?

I've participated in almost 100 of these investigations, this is how they go, wait and see, then I will accept your apology.
You may end up being right and but you have zero evidence to back up your claim at this point in this particular case (unless you know someone involved in the investigation), so throwing it out there based upon what it currently known is irresponsible and unprofessional. Just my opinion.

You are missing that people read a comment from a reporter that said he didn’t think Mayo was interested in a co-DC arrangement because he thought “mayos camp” felt he did more of the coordinating and SB did the play calling. And as always happens here, this was translated to MAYO TOLD US he coordinates the defense and SB calls the plays, which must mean Mayo does the work and SB does nothing and gets credit.

I think we know we need a mobile QB I expect us to be in on the Lamar Jackson sweepstakes.

And hear about us looking at mobile QBs during the draft.
Could we be that team who tried to develop Richardson?
Bill O brein is perfect for Mac but maybe the silver lining if Obrein goes to Arizona as HC for us is it forces Bill to go outside his box for OC.

It was announced with the report that Mayo was staying and had declined interviews.. Do you think he does that just to be behind Steven? No.
You may be right and it's logical but you're assuming.

Brilliant move.
Love Brady I was hoping we would interview him as well.
Plus it weakens Buff.

It's not. He threw 80+ TD previous 2 years. This idea that QB can only be played one way is absurd.

Ability to run is a different way - does not mean the only way. Not to mention dual QBs will have a much shorter shelf life with the hits they take. They will have to adapt in their 30s or will be gone.

How many elite dual threats in their mid 30s?

Maybe an announcement ahead of the games today? With Kraft's attempt to be strategic with PR, it might make sense that they do a news dump this afternoon.

I could support the run for Lamar, however the more i think about, I bet they tag him.

As dual threat QBs become more common, defensive schemes to punish the running QB will also.
The NFL rules have made the game ultimately about passing, and future changes will move more in that direction. 56-55 games is what the league wants.
If you make your QB run 10-15 times a game (plus fake running on an option other times) your passer is taking hits than can only diminish his ability to pass as the mount and/or cause injury. Finger, hand, arm, shoulder injuries obviously affect that but leg injuries will too as we saw yesterday.

Having the Rb run do that the QB stats healthy is much smarter than splitting the carries, and beatings, with the qb.

This guy brings an existential, nighmarish experience to the offense.

Uche is not an every down LB, but he has become a formidable pass rusher.

I would be disappointed if Mayo doesn't get Assistant HC and DC as he has the leverage now. Mayo getting both titles would show Kraft has put his foot down.
I agree. I can't imagine Mayo being satisfied with the vague assistant HC role without also the well defined DC position. But nothing's been announced despite his backing out from other interviews, including for HC position. Would love to be a fly on the wall at Foxboro.

Implied is not announced.
