Martellus Bennett : [UPDATE: Placed on IR]

Bennetts cooky schtick grew old here, but I'll take him in a heartbeat as an added red zone threat!

That's silly, how would he help your team? He's never played professional baseball.

I posted a video of six of Allen's targets. He has had one ball hit him in the hands. So the stone hands stuff is incorrect. If you want to question his route running or not being able to get on the same page as Brady that's fair.

I stand corrected.

Bennett has looked horrible this season, we need to stay away from this one.

Not as horrible as Allen and when was the last time the packers actually utilized the tight end position? They hardly feature it as much.

I know you're trying to be funny when comparing him to the overpriced Allen.

Allen has had 6 targets so far how comes I only remember two?? Dwayne Allen's camp fabricating targets??

I thought he had 8 targets. One was almost an int. I think a few of them he couldn't track in the air. It's just a waste of a down going this route, he and Brady aren't on the same page. It's a bad sign when a receiving threat says the offense is hard to learn. No one should ever admit that if you are a true professional. You just have to work harder to get in the same page. But he has to get at least one catch, no one can be that bad.

He's not that bad or at least it's not something I could pinpoint out on gamefilm. He's been targeted 6 times according pro football reference. I admit that it is strange that he has zero receptions at this point in the season. I hope he has a breakout game.

"No one should ever admit" what is commonly known? He said it was hard to learn but he's grinding away at it. Nothing wrong with that imo.

I agree 100-percent. If his head was right he would've re-signed with New England instead of chasing a mirage and ultimately signing for less with the Packers, then quickly flaming out. He did put in a great effort in Gronk's absence last season but that was a matter of the stars aligning for him and the Pats for a brief period of time. Bottom line is he's a pretty odd dude; too many people here fell in love with him because he's offbeat and "funny," but that's not what makes a good Patriot.

Signing with a contender that needs a TE means and has a top three QB means "his head isn't right"? You realize teams besides besides the Pats win championships, right?

He played hard while he was here, he kept his mouth shut and he played hurt when we needed him most. How is that not a Patriot? And what does that even mean? This is a team that signed Albert Haynseworth and Michael Floyd, to name a couple. A good Patriot is someone who can help the team win, who can do all the things Bennett did last year.

This also has nothing to do with people liking him personally. I'm not a big fan of Gronk. I think he's an idiot. But he's the best TE in football, so I want him here. That's all this is. Bennett, if healthy, is vastly superior to any TE we have now behind Gronk. This is especially important considering how our WRs are dropping like flies. We can use help. Waiting for Allen or Hollister to get it in the next eight weeks is a terrible plan if we have better options.

Allen's been crap, and the TE3 has 3 total catches on the season, as a pass catching TE. Bennett's been a disappointment in Green Bay, but has still been better than either N.E. backup. He may have a shoulder issue, though.

"Allen's been good blocking!" isn't at all meaningful (as well as being generous grading) with a team that historically doesn't mind putting an extra OL on the field as a TE in run situations. Start with that as an honest baseline, then discuss the idea of Bennett.

The chances of getting Bennett is looking good, knowing he's a head case and all can't see certain contending Teams taking a chance. On the flip side we have a good history with him put in the claim BB no brainer.

While front offices all vary in levels of competency, I would be very surprised if Green Bay cut him without an actual injury of significant note. MB may still have had an attitude/effort problem there, especially once Rodgers went down, but I don't think that's all there is to this decision. I think he's really hurt.

This whole "sign or not sign" discussion is likely moot. Would love to be wrong, though. Guys who click with Brady and the Pats expectations on route running and adjustments don't grow on trees.

Regards,
Chris

Their season's going nowhere. Maybe they didn't like his attitude and he basically quit on them.

GB alleges that Bennett didn't disclose medical information. They are preparing to try to get some bonus money back.

If Bennett is healthy enough to play, obviously we should sign him. However, that is unlikely to be the situation. In any case, the decision can wait until after Mexico City.

Well we will see. If it's something that takes a couple of weeks or maybe a month I would still sign him. He knows the system very well.
