if what butler did was so egregious, so downright nefarious to warrant a complete defensive benching in the biggest athletic even in the world....then why did the team bring him back in 2022?

What do you care?
Don't we all care? It cost the team a Super Bowl championship. Malcolm Plays on defense and they win that game.

Malcolm wasn't inured either. This is a definite no. He was dressed and he played in the game.

Malcolm didn't do anything substantial enough regarding team rules or personal conduct to warrant a game suspension. He was dressed and he played in the game. Malcolm said after the game that he was good to go and he felt he could have made a difference in the outcome of the game. He had 0 defensive snaps which effectively was a game suspension from playing defense.

The decision by Belichick to remove Malcolm from the defensive game plan was not adequately addressed with players or team captains. Brady said after the game that he noticed Malcolm on the sideline while the defense was on the field and he asked himself: "What defense are we in where Malcolm's not on the field?"

Eric Rowe said after the game, when asked if the defense could have benefitted from having Malcolm on the field and he summed it up perfectly with "yeah, definitely."

Many other current and former teammates of Malcolm showed him support immediately after the game.

Belichick has only made this comment about the situation: "Made the decisions that give us the best chance to win." Anyone who believes this is a fool. Malcolm went from 99% of defensive snaps for the season to 0% in the Super Bowl. Johnson Bademosi and Jordan Richards, both of whom are absolutely terrible, were on the field for substantial plays.

Foles was 6-7 for 137 on 3rd downs alone when targeting Bademosi, Richards or Rowe. In total 171 of his 373 passing yards came against that trio (46%). Rowe also gave up a TD.

I'll be interested in the book and documentary. Neither of which will have any contributions from Belichick. Which will be very telling.

So he has no buddies who died face down in the muck?
Might have been in basic with them and he got sent home on a medical.

Any Bill Washers want to take a crack at the 4th and 13 decision in SB42?

No question he should have kicked it. However...

Only logical explanations are a) he was hurt b) longest that year was 45 yards. c) might have been shaky in warm ups.

He shanked a kickoff OOB so maybe his mechanics were off?

Personally I think he was babying Gost a little. Still young in his career. He didn't want a miss there to effect him if he had a GW kick in 4th or mess his brain up for his career.

I'll say it now, Coach Bill's arrogance went a long way in handing Philadelphia their first super bowl. Even the biggest Belichick Bobo, Rumpswab, Toady (especially the ones who claim criticism of the team backed with facts and stats is equivalent to "whining"), would not say the 2017 New England Patriots were in a better position with Eugene, I mean Connie, I mean Patrick Chung playing slot corner and Eric Rowe (who sucks) getting the dominant snaps outside corner.

Bill Belichick is arrogant, smug, and a losing coach without Tom Brady at his side. Lest we forget, Coach Bill is so arrogant that his coaches think they can win a Super Bowl with a middle of the road QB.

Taking Malcolm Butler out of the game made it easier for Philadelphia. Do people realize this "duplicitous pond scum" (thanks Kevin Mannix) coach had a defense that surrendered the most points they had surrendered since opening day! Think about that! The defense was only giving up 18.5 ppg and in the playoffs they gave up 14 and 20 points prior to the Super Bowl. If not for the heroic efforts of Tom Brady, the Patriots lose this super bowl by 21 points.

Think about this, the "Butler-less" defense gave up FOURTY ONE POINTS that terrible February day....Coach Bill, who ALWAYS puts his team in the best position to win - put his team in a position in which they would have had to have scored a SEASON HIGH in points to win the game!

And finally, Bill Belichick drafted a FULL BACK in the first round in 1991

Did you listen to Bradys podcast?

It's very funny that now Patricia is the one with uncertainty surrounding him.. BB trying to revive Patricia's coaching aspirations actually in my opinion hurt them, and made us a laughing stock last season.. as they say what goes around, comes around

Hopefully this debate will be finally put to rest once my side is proven right.

Thus begins the 2nd longest thread in Patsfans history. Lol
Owning the distinction for technically starting that thread is something I hang over the louvre to this day.

The same question should be asked to Butler as well. Why would he come back unless he felt Bill screwed him? What's disappointing about it is that he doesn't seem to be that upset about that day as we are.

The whole thing was insane. Butler didn't do anything bad enough that they told him to stay home because he dressed for the game but somehow he did something bad enough not to play a single defensive snap. To me that falls right into the window of something most of us would deem pretty trivial for a guy who everyone knew was out the door after that game anyways. The notion that Bill couldn't let whatever Butler did slide is asinine. You think the other 52 guys on the team if they look back on that Super Bowl and say "Well we ended up losing the game because we couldn't get a defensive stop all day but it was worth it because Bill taught a guy in his last game here a lesson!"? Other of Bill's recent blunders that somehow some people still defend.
Evidently what he did was not be prepared to play. It wasn’t a punishment it was not putting a guy in the game who you felt was unprepared.
It was belichicks decision. Butler may give us details why he was unprepared and then you can judge for yourself whether you agree. Creating a conspiracy theory that there is another reason, with absolutely nothing to back it up is silly.
