Malcolm Butler Says Super Bowl Benching Documentary/Book Coming

Am I the only one who felt like prime Revis himself wouldn't have made a difference in 52? The whole defense was getting smoked. Not sure Butler would've helped. Kinda felt like there was nothing we could do to win that game other than score on every drive and score last. Sometimes it just be like that
Gilmore took Jeffery out of the game once the light bulb went on with Bill and put Gilmore on him. That itself takes away 10 points as he had no business catching and running for a 3rd down conversion on the 1st drive and a deep TD grab on Rowe.

I also hated seeing the curse of the former player in Blount rumbling for that long TD.

Considering the Eagles were laughing in the sidelines after seeing who was being played by the Pats, you're probably right. The damage was already done. Total embarrasment to allow Nick ****ing Foles to burn the D over and over again.
I don't think he cared one way or the other what the Iggles or others would say. You do.

Obviously not. He literally gave away the SB because of his stubbornness to admit a mistake knowing fully well Early Bird Bob wouldn't do a thing about it. Same thing he did this past season. He over played his hand this time though. Krafts are on him like stink on ****.

Thank god he won 6 others to dull your pain.

Butler was a guest on Zolak’s 98.5 show today. I didn’t see the whole interview only catching a little bit of it when home at lunch to take my dogs out.

I heard Butler say “if what I did was so bad, why did they bring me back”. Bertrand then repeated the “conspiracy theory “ that his signing last off-season was tantamount to “hush money”. Butler responded it was wise to not burn bridges.

We had Patrick Chung cover speed WRs 1 on 1, a complete mismatch. Unless Butler couldn't run, he could have helped. I'm with Ian, once the 2nd half started he should have been inserted.

I’m sure this is just me and that’s fine but I’ve moved on a while ago. I don’t care.

Me neither, Malcolm can tell us from his view, but we'll never get Bill's view, so I've let it go. We know Bill makes mistakes and he's not infallible, but he won't say so screw it, don't care won't buy the book.

I’m sure he was. I’m just curious about the severity of the event and whether or not it warranted an entire game, especially the most important one of the year.
You already got your answer. As the Super Bowl unfolded that night. Butler was there, he was healthy, he was dressed, and he played in the game. On ST. Belichick held him out of the game on defense as retribution for some offense (probably toward a coach).

So we know it didn't warrant the entire game because he actually played. Just not where and when he could have made a difference in the outcome of the game. I firmly believe Belichick put his personal agenda ahead of what was in the best interest of the team. In a Super Bowl. WTF!?!

I'd love it if that were the reason. But that entire situation certainly felt like it went beyond something so simple, so it remains a question that I think most of us are still curious about. Him crying at the start of the game tells me there's more to it. I'd honestly prefer the concussion/health issue that @A Defiant Goose mentioned, which would at least put it to bed and make it easier to accept.

Didn't Butler play one ST snap at some point during that game?

I'm not sure if I'm recalling correctly. If he did, then it doesn't seem to be a concussion issue ... maybe a different health problem, though.

I don't care what he did. He should have played.
this. I can’t believe people are still defending Belichick/the team over this. everyone on this site knows, whether they want to admit it or not, Pats win if Butler plays. the team did too. look at Brady, Gronk, Amendola, etc reaction to it.

the missed tackles in the short passing game and run game. Butler makes at least one key tackle to stop a drive. and he may have gave up some catches, but there is no way on God’s green earth he gets shredded like Badmostly and Richards did

While hyping his book Malcolm says he really doesn't know why he was kept out of the game. Hard to believe that there will be much new info of substance coming out. He is not going to fully admit what he did to get BB to bench him and there will be nothing from the coaches to explain their side of the story.
