That doesn’t mean there aren’t facts that can give insight.
The thread is going because people want to cry.

Why? You don’t know why he was benched so how do you know it was wrong?
Bringing in 1 special teams snap is just bs to deflect from the point.

You’ve clearly never been part of an organization that values team, everyone working toward a goal, and principles.
We aren’t playing this guy because he yanked his preparation for the biggest game of the year, but when things aren’t going well, even though he isn’t prepared let’s just throw him in there.
That is Monday morning quarterbacking and ignorant.

People want to cry-including yourself.

And you also don’t know why he was benched so how do you know he was right?

Duh, that’s the point, discussing what happened, not crying because it did.

If bill would give a straight answer maybe this thread would finally die down. He suited the guy up but didn’t even look his way once. If he tried to embarrassed the guy then he did a good job of doing so at the expense of the defense.

A fly on the wall over heard this from the Brady/Kraft/Belichick meeting

Brady: Coach Belichick, did you order the Butler benching?
Kraft: You don't have to answer that question!
Belichick: I'll answer the question!
Belichick: You want answers?
Brady: I think I'm entitled to.
Belichick: You want answers?
Brady: I WANT THE TRUTH!
Belichick: YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
[pauses]
Belichick: Son, we live in a world that has a defense, and that defense has to be guarded by men with hoodies. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Robert? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Butler and you curse the coaches. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know; that Butler's benching, while tragic, probably saved this team. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, *saves this team*. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that field. You need me on that field. We use words like zone, man, and big nickel. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending our goal line. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the wins that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide them! I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a football and stand under center. Either way, I don't give a *damn* what you think you are entitled to!
Brady: Did you order the Butler benching?
Belichick: I did the job I...
Brady: [interupts him] *Did you order the Butler benching?*
Belichick: *You're God damn right I did!*

choosing to throw on the goal line instead of handing it off to lynch is a bad decision.

Choose to give your #2 cb zero snaps isn't a bad decision, its poor coaching.
I would add that the lynch thing can be bad decision or bad luck. But not playing butler for a single defensive snap in the whole game is like making 50 bad decisions in a row. At that point it’s not a bad decision anymore, it’s sabotage.

Someone please close this stupid thread

I am so tempted ....
It's like zombies gnawing on rotted flesh ...
It happened ... it's over ... 2018 season is here ... turn the page.
You people do realize, don't you, that you are not compelled to open this thread if you don't want to open it, right?
If you do, then STFU and leave the rest of us alone. We'll turn the page when we're feckin ready to turn the feckin page.

The good captain has opened fire.

It is. The man is definitely in complete control of this football team. If he was hell bent on Butler being benched either for disciplinary reasons or for not being committed to the game plan, Butler would have been benched altogether. He also probably wouldn't have dressed as the team could have promoted a DB from the practice squad if it felt that strongly about what he did (or didn't do).

I disagree. If he wasn't being punished, which I believe, then it makes sense that he dressed and played a ST snap. He wasn't part of the game plan. He then would have dressed in case someone was injured. I doesn't have to be not part of the game plan or starting line up equals not dressing or playing ST.

It’s hard to get past the fact that the guy played 98 percent of the snaps. He’s your second best cornerback. Does anyone know the amount of zone coverage we played in that game?

It wasn’t a punishment it was a decision based upon him being prepare to play.

So if it was preparation, what was different about this game plan vs. any other game plan that Butler had been a part of? And don't forget that Butler DID practice in the lead up to the Super Bowl.
