Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Says who? Obviously not the people making the decisions.

He dressed because we were short in corners. In my opinion he was cb3 before he melted down when told which was after inactives.
If you aren’t playing because you didn’t learn the defensive gameplan that doesn’t affect special teams. But feel free to give a different explantation that makes sense and jibes with the facts we know.

So now he’s a cb3 at game time, he sheds some tears during the anthem, now he’s benched from the defense but his mindset is ok enough to play special teams?

You guys keep trying to explain away why he played on ST but the fact is you really can’t. So you formulate opinions to try to pass them off

choosing to throw on the goal line instead of handing it off to lynch is a bad decision.

Choose to give your #2 cb zero snaps isn't a bad decision, its poor coaching.

That’s what I have says from day 1 and that’s what fits the facts. He was active because he had a roll. During pregame he melted down. We saw the tears, we dint know what else happened and Belichick decided he wasnt ready to play.
Whwther that one punt return that you are making out to be smoking gun was because they decided he was ok to play on that unit, or more likely that they just neglected to realize he needed to be replaced is unknown.

You are fully able to present a theory that fits with the facts and is more plausible.

B.B. either we fine with him playing special teams or it got missed for one play in the shuffle.
You act as if benching butler was some kind of angry retribution. It was just making a decision that the guy wasn’t prepared to play.

In other words, BB has complete control over his football team on this message board when it's convenient for him to do so and some things get "missed in the shuffle" when it's inconvenient for him to do so. Par for the course.

Hey there’s people who believe it was a good decision to pass instead of run once they heard BB say it (when it’s possible he’s just saying it after the fact to take some of the heat off Carroll.)

And yes, totally agree what we saw from SB52 was poor coaching, poor communication. Pretty much a bad day at the office.

Passing was a fine idea but a slant into traffic was not a good idea. That should have been a fade.

It’s a joke.

It’s a joke.

It is. The man is definitely in complete control of this football team. If he was hell bent on Butler being benched either for disciplinary reasons or for not being committed to the game plan, Butler would have been benched altogether. He also probably wouldn't have dressed as the team could have promoted a DB from the practice squad if it felt that strongly about what he did (or didn't do).

Agreed. Lower percentage chance of getting picked. Lynch imo was still the correct call but if you want to pass anything where you getting for sure 1 on 1 on the outside is better.

Well now their theories are that Butler could’ve been neglected on that ST play and got in there by mistake. Which would point to piss poor coaching by BB and co.

The Pats were in goal line heavy on that down. I would have thrown it there too. But, like I said, I would have chosen a fade. The worst thing that could happen is it falls out of bounds and you have another down to try to pound Lynch in there. A slant into traffic was a horrific idea and the decision to throw it by Wilson was even worse considering the jam Browner had.

You can’t say that without knowing that reason.
I would argue strongly that allowing a player who admits he wasn’t locked in and focused in preparation for the super bowl to do that to his teammates and still be allowed to play would be bad coaching.

Your theory is??????

Could’ve even tried an RPO, just to show the threat of a run. Wilson wasn’t even making the read on that play, he was throwing it no matter what

A player on a team getting ready to play in the Super Bowl, a team that’s lives by the mottos “do your job” and “no days off” admits that in the 2 weeks preparing for the game says he wasn’t locked in and focused on preparation.
Because of this the coach doesn’t play him. The coach is also the must successful coach in the history of the sport.
Fans blame the coach.
Where is the outrage for butler goofing off while his teammates were locked in and focused on the game and winning?

An RPO on the +1 yardline. Lol

The Eagles only punted once, so if that was the only personnel group he was assigned to then that would explain why he only had one snap. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy (bad defense-->no more punts).

That’s why we don’t know the answer. Perhaps they left him on punt return, perhaps they neglected to remove him. It’s not like the focus of the entire team was in the guy who goofed off in practice.
He was demoted to cb3 during the week. We know that. Cb3 got like 6 snaps in this game. So B.B. and MP deciding the meltdown meant give bademosi those 6 snaps doesn’t mean B.B. also goes to judge and asks what special teams butler is on and take him off.
