Mac Jones working out with Nic Shimonek on his strength and conditioning

You'd be surprised at how many professional athletes don't care as much as fans think they care. Their main concern is making as much money as they can before their bodies break down. Winning is just icing on the cake.

There are players who are more interested in getting paid than winning, but most players want to win. It just might not be their top priority. But I tend to think that Judon isn't one of them. The guy spends all offseason trying to recruit players to play with the Pats. Sure a lot of it is tongue in cheek, but is trying to get guys to come here.

Well, you never know. He couldn't have been worse than what they had after Purdy got injured.

Here's my Hypothetical - With our first 2 picks in the draft we go CB, WR. I think BSG will agree that there will be more value and a surer choice at #14 for a CB than at OT. Not a great year for stud OLmen after the top 2 (I believe) there will a a nice group that are pretty much interchangeable that there is s decent shot for one to be there at #46. But instead of going OL at 46, I'd prefer a WR. Again WR is going to be a deep deep position, I believe (and I can't believe I'm saying this) we are more likely to find a future #1 WR in the draft than in FA. If a good but limited Meyers is the top FA WR, then sorry that ISN'T a great WR market in FA. If a #1 WR is the goal, then we are more likely to find it in the draft than FA.
ken in that really you??

This. How do you get someone better than Mac? Either by trade or the draft. Who we trading for that would be a significant improvement and would be THE guy? And if not a trade then we are just on the carousel of drafting a qb in the first round over and over which is not an exact science until we hit on a Burrows, Allen, Mahommes? People hated Tua and Hurts but the latter especially has shown that he can play this year. We need to do the same. We need to know for sure what we have and at this time it's the best option considering all of the above so the endless Mcorky noodle arm comments are just wasted breath until Mac is fully done.

But according to the posters on this board if the QB you draft isn't a top QB after 2 seasons you need to dump them and start over.

I mean what did Brock purdy do that Mac Jones can't do? It's not a crazy statement. Mac had 22tds and 10 interceptions in 2021. Put him on the 49ers with that offense I think he would be just fine.

I'd say if purdy was healthy they are in the Superbowl as well. Or Jimmy G or any QB who could throw a pass or wasn't the 4th string guy

While his arm is nothing special, he has better pocket presence than Mac, especially when things break down.

I would like to see Mac with a better O-Line and at least one special talent on offense he can rely on and make Parker, Bourne (unless traded), Meyers (if he re-signs) and Thronton (unless he breaks out) complementary pieces. Every defense in the NFL will welcome Meyers hogging up all the targets.

He made more plays off structure outside of the pocket in 5 starts than Mac has made his whole career. The 49ers have a ton of weapons on offense, they also don't really help their OL out much and leave a lot of the rush avoidance in the hands of the quarterback. I'm sure Mac could be a good ball distributor on that offense, but he doesn't do a lot of what Purdy did to have success in that system.

Comparing Purdy to Mac makes little sense. Purdy was still making rookie mistakes largely mitigated by his surrounding cast. Mac in that offense would’ve rolled; it’s clear why Shanahan was interested in him two years ago.

I'm agreeing with you. Im responding to the notion that cowherd made a ridiculous statement. I don't think Purdy did anything special. The notion that Mac Jones couldn't do that is crazy.

Jimmy G had that offense humming as well and he's not the most mobile guy.

I’m telling you now keep an eye on Jimmy G.
I wouldn’t rule us out as a destination.
I think McDaniels might make a move for him give Jimmy G talent and he will win as long as he can stay healthy.

Can we stop ? comparing Mac with QB's who throws darts... Thank you.

Wow you really had to search for that one... even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. I meant no harm in my initial post I just said we should stop comparing Mac to QB's who played significantly better: and I don't care if they played on a superior Team. We know Jimmy G can win when healthy and that Purdy played with confidence being Mr irrelevant and all that was quite an accomplishment. Let's hope Mac puts it together some he has quite a ways to go.

I do agree, Macs pocket presence was improving in his first year but took a huge step back last year. If Mac had the supporting cast around him that Purdey had i do think he would outperform Purdey.

But the team you are on and the supporting cast around you is hugely significant. It's been said many times but Tua went from being considered laughable at times by some to leading the most explosive passing attack in the NFL in one year. The change.. coaching and weapons. It matters.

I'm not opposed Jimmy G - Mac 10 and Zappe knowing how QB's drop like flies in this league are all good options. Hey we Drafted Jimmy G I wouldn't rule it out either I am sure BB likes him.

You ain't telling me about weapons and other than Rham I don't like ours. I want Two Rookie WR's with Starting Potential from this upcoming Draft. It's been a long time between drinks for us.
