Mac Jones Suggested Trade Value

That was bizarre AF nobody was like this is our guy, it’s like I’m good with it, it sounds like someone asking if everyone’s ok with Taco Bell or McDonald’s not selecting the most important position in all pro sports My God.

Should have traded the pick down or taken another position.
Thank God we got Barmore.
Beastmore turned out to be our best pick of the '21 draft.

The retrospectoscopes always get heavy use on this site. Very few people here were questioning the Mac pick at 15 that night. In fact, most posters were very happy that they were able to snag him at 15, rather than having to trade up a few spots, and thought that he was a no-brainer at that spot. A small number of posters felt that they should have traded up for Fields, if I am recalling correctly.

Not surprisingly, most of the people now blasting Bill for the “terrible” pick were singing a different tune on draft night. It WAS the right pick at 15, given what else was on the board at that point and in light of the critical need for a new QB. It just didn’t work out, for a variety of reasons. That’s the draft.

Mac still has his backers throughout the rest of the league and I suspect that several teams feel as though he is still salvageable and would be happy if he became available for a day 3 pick swap, of course, for free.

In my opinion, the best place for him would be with the Rams. He could sit behind Stafford next year and learn their QB-friendly offense, and then would be primed to take over in 2025 under one of the most talented offensive coaches in the league, if not sooner, depending upon Stafford’s health.

A big issue imo was that the team leadership decided to just play passive and get whoever fell to them so that they could absolve themselves of blame if it didn't work out instead of being aggressive.

Fields for a first when he went right before Mac and Lance for a second to Dallas just shows how much this pick set us back,
In the land where you make up what players trade value is with nothing to back it up, it didn’t set us back at all, because it only could in reality.

This is not pretty
The rumor is a 7th round pick or a swap of late 6th for Mac and a 7th,
Meanwhile Justin Fields who many on this board trolled horribly is rebooted to be worth a first or more.

Awful Awful pick, scared the hell out of me when we took him.
Whoever signed off on this pick should never be around a draft board ever again.
You are such a fraud.

“I’m warming up to Mac Jones he’s like a coach on the field closest thing to Brady” - YOU

“I’m getting a Mac Jones jersey as soon as his number is called” - YOU

Seeing how these QBs turned out and where the pats were sitting in the draft order smart move to wait and take whoever fell instead of getting aggressive like San Fran.

If they didn'y feel strongly about any of the QB's they could have drafted another position and got a QB later. Then if/when most of them failed they would have looked like geniuses. They knew they wanted a QB but didn't want to be on the hook if it failed so they stayed put so they could always have an excuse "oh poor us, he was the only one there". Just like how the year before they didn't try to make a play for a QB when they almost went into the season with Stidham. Same reason whenever their are two decent WR's up in free agency or for trade we always wait and let another team get first dibs so we can get the second guy cheaper so if it doesn't work out "yeah but we didn't want to overspend so you can't blame us if it doesn't work out because we just let the market dictate it for us". Was anybody surprised that they let Hopkins walk out the door? You think these guys wanted to take a gamble that he wouldn't decline? Same reason in 2020 they let a WR run happen right in front of them and just stayed put and didn't try to get one so they could just go "whoops, guess they were all gone, have to trade down now".

It's a passive team that wants to be wishy washy so they can cover their asses for not actually being decisive. They don't have Brady anymore to guarantee they fall ass backwards into the playoffs where they can at a minimum pickoff a more disjointed team let alone go on a big run, so they don't have faith in big moves panning out.

Mac's trade value is one hell of a nut slap.

Mac's trade value is one hell of a nut slap.
I mean he got benched on and off all year until he finally lost the starting job to a guy who most consider not starting caliber anyways. Draft picks are essentially gambles on potential. If someone doesn't pan out and is a bust, they aren't worth the high end potential of the first several rounds.

One thing Fields is better at is his demeanor after an interception. He nonchalantly gives a "my bad" where Mac looks crushed and searches for his wooby. Or maybe both of those reactions suck.

Mac has talent. IMHO where he’s lacking is intestinal fortitude.

Seem to recollect that there was a lot of positive feedback from fans and media when that pick was made.. many thought Jones was the guy. Even after year 1 there was hope that he could continue to progress as most still held on to their optimism, year 2 there was a lot of blame on Matt Patricia and his lack of offensive prowess.
Year 3 despite offensive optimism he just crapped the bed.
2021 was the same draft that featured Zach Wilson #2, Trey Lance #4 and Justin Fields #11.. so despite this great age of analytics and football wisdom all these draft picks, including Jones, were lousy picks.

Fields is much much better than Mac.
How? Lesser career Rating, way worse completion percentage, close on TD to INT ration. Mac Jones is a better passer, Fields is a real good runner, so I guess slight advantage to Fields. Of course, running QB's wear down and get hurt.

Even in this current year, where Jones clearly has been shell-shocked, he's only slightly worse than Fields, who has the best WR of the 2 teams in DJ Moore.

I've watched the last 2 Bears games with Fields, I think Jones has more potential as a passer, but both will never be good starting NFL QB's.

Fields is around NEGATIVE 20% below expected EPA in the last 2 minutes of a half and the game. That's when QB's show what they have. That stat is at the level of guys that can't even make careers as backups in the NFL.

Fields shows some wow play with his feet, so teams think he has potential, so teams think he is worth more than Jones, but since they are backups only it really depends on the team and system. In SF Jones would fit better, at Ravens then Fields would fit better, as backups.

They already gave Malik away.

Captain knows his QBs.

pure revisionist history. at the time the Mac Jones pick was loved by this board.

then he went something like 25tds and 10picks his rookie season and lead us to the playoffs. it went off the rails the following year with patricia/judge and has only gotten worse.

but lets not act like this was some catastrophic mistake....like drafting N'keal harry who never did anything.

Its going to be painful to pass on Harrison Jr and take another QB @ pick # 1 for the Bears.

I believe you have to try Fields with Moore and Harrison Jr and take another QB later.

Not me.

Bama QBs suck. Tua will choke just watch.

Jones beat up crap teams. Towards the end of his rookie season the losses and INTs piled up except for a banner day vs the Jags where Jones lit the scoreboard up like Alabama vs U of Birmingham.

HAHAHAAAHHHA Love it. Still blaming Patricia, but BOB gets a free pass.

No, not a mistake at all.
