Mac Jones appreciation thread

Drew had a great arm, and he had heart. He just didn't seem to have the right mental make up to take it to the next level. It just seemed that when the moment got the biggest Drew didn't step up.
Drew literally didn't "step up" -- he was the Original Statue back there.

I don't think Mac is the type of QB that the DC's can take his strengths away. He's like Brees or Brady, he can make every throw on the field, he's not a run out of the pocket guy, he's a hit the open man guy. How do you really game plan for that when every week you can make a different target your focus based on the opponents weaknesses.
Mac has quite decent speed and throws accurately on the run. Josh hasn't taken advantage of that yet, nor has he yet exploited Mac's high-level RPO skills. Mac on an RPO is deadly because of his ability to read and fake.

Drew's problems were always INTs...
Drew was a high maintenance QB who needed all the stars aligned to be effective. He needed protection, running game, deep threats and Coates available. When all these were at his disposal, he was tough to beat. However, his INT's were bizarre who was known to throw to LB's (in an era they couldn't cover much ground in the passing game) at the weirdest times.

Mac Jones is only the 3rd rookie QB starter since 2000 to lead a team to 50+ points in a game. Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson are the other 2. Mahomes had 1 his first year starting but not as a rookie

Mac's after game routine:

“I usually just honestly go home and hang out with my family, eat some dessert. I definitely get a little dessert after the game. But yeah, everyone has their own way of celebrating. I don’t think it’s right or wrong to do one thing or the other. For me, I just try and get home and be with my family and my puppy.”

Wait til the puppy grows up.

Drew was also an every other year guy. He'd have a great year, then a not-so-great year. Feels like he'd dig deep when times got rough but when things were good, he'd rest on his laurels. Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan (I still have his jersey), but that always drove me crazy.

So true.

Drew was stuck with garbage at the WR position for so long that he became solely dependent on elite TE play in order to excel. That's a personnel problem. He was also a victim of his time, as he came about during the league-wide transition from a Cowboys/Steelers type of offense to passing games built more around the 49ers/Oilers concepts.

Still, if the Patriots had beaten the Packers in the Super Bowl, Bledsoe would likely be in the HOF.

He played well in that game. If that return didn't happen and the game stayed close and Reggie White couldn't just tee off on him, I definitely believe it might have turned out differently.

I think HC Belichick in his prime wins that game. Probably one of the worst games I've ever seen Tuna coach. Circumstances obviously didn't help either. I think they had figured something out with Curtis against the Packers run defense but then they went bombs away with Bledsoe when Lane was getting destroyed by White. Drew didn't have a chance in that quarter.

Just reading the headline, I was wondering if it was a euphemism…. Definitely not though!

I would have liked to think Drew could have beaten the Rams in SB36 if Tom still wasn't right enough to play and the reins were kept on Drew tight. Then again he probably still has a killer INT or two...

Remember Drew’s advice to Tom right before he went out for the final drive? “Just sling it.” I fear Drew would have thrown a pick-6 if he were out there….

I love him - but he had that bizarre play in the Steelers game. I remember cringing when that happened.

1996 Drew I definitely think had a shot to win that game. Really too bad it didn't happen. Bugs me that Favre gets to wave that accomplishment around given how much I dislike him.
