Something I suspected but which pans out when you look it up. Mac Jones' stats so far are pretty close to Chad Pennington's Career stats. Sticking to Chad's starting years of 2002-2008 we get:

Mac
70.2% Completion
94.7 Rating
7.3 Y/A
1.3 TD/G
.7 INT/G
2.0 Sacks/G

Chad
66.2% Completion
90.1 Rating
7.2 Y/A
1.1 TD/G
.7 INT/G
1.8 Sacks/G

And we expect or at least hope for Mac to improve from here!

Was also drafted at 18 overall. Not far from where Mac was picked.

I'll take Mac being Chad Pennington - without the injuries.

Those stats could be used to justify what Mac's critics have been saying, that he has a high floor and a low ceiling and maybe the ceiling and the floor are the same.

Pennington was a really good QB that was throwing for almost 70% when league average was closer to 60%. He was runner up to Manning in MVP voting and retired like top 3 in comp %. Before that he was helping Moss set records in college at Marshall bc he only got like 3 offers (parents went to Marshall) and went like 12-1 after Moss. He's always been a really good comp.

Mac's stats from his first 10 games? I think year 2 will be significantly improved ;) and those stats will be meaningless.
I don't doubt that Mac will have better numbers next year, but linking Mac to Chad Pennington has been a favorite conceit of Mac's critics.

Really? I thought Pennington was a really good QB. And his injury made his arm strength much worse; before the injury, his arm was fine and showed all the pre-draft panic wasn’t warranted.

I always liked Pennington as a quarterback before his injury. He was very accurate and knew where to throw the ball. But, over time, his arm strength, which was never great, became the lens through which many evaluated his quarterbacking ability, minimizing his positives. This caricature of Pennington is what Mac's critics have used to belittle Mac's potential.

I don't care that others see things that way. I'm happy that, as it stands, Mac's floor appears to be just above Pennington's ceiling and allows the Pats to use their whole playbook. 1/2 of the league would happily swap their QB for a young Pennington. (Or if they don't, they should be fired.)

I like how the media is declaring Mac Jones ceiling during his rookie year. As if he won't improve

Entirely satisfied with Jones. He has plenty of room to grow and what he is right now is a very solid game manager who can contribute with his arm.

It is mostly because they cannot show endless Mac's highlight like they can do with Lamar Jackson or Kyler Murray or Patrick Mahomes.

Mac plays a very cerebral game and his spectacular plays are "subtle". It does not translate well to a 30s highlight reel... unless you know what you are looking at.

That's why a guy like Orlovsky, who knows what he is looking for, praises Mac a lot.
