You do realize though that eventually, Polian had to complain to the League about Manning's receivers being knocked around by the Pats, right? IMO, the increase in officiating was a factor that helped the Colts a lot. Those pass interference and no-contact calls were important enough to help turn the tide.

Yeah, and people tend to forget that we had Peyton's number early in his career too. It happens. I don't know if Luck will become the superstar that people have predicted. But I can see he looks pretty good out there and he should only get better . . . limit the turnovers, which is his biggest weakness right now to me.

With that said, F the Colts and Luck. I hope we crush them 107-7 the next time we play them. Gray AND Blount will both rush for 200 yards. LOL

I don't think it's that people forget we had Manning's number early as much as it is that people remember and see similarities with Luck. Luck's career will be a disappointment if he replicates Manning in playoff success despite having all that talent.

Luck is predicated on hucking the ball all over and hoping for a play. The INT to Revis in the AFCCG. Where was that one going?

That was actually the right read given the coverage, it's just that Revis' instincts led him to completely abandon his man. Had Luck pump faked and looked downfield it would have been an easy TD, though expecting him to think Revis was going to release an uncovered 9 might be a bit much to ask.

I do know that Lucks' job is not to stop the run. Generally the Patriots usually just run the ball down the Colts throats, then Brady picks them apart with the quick passing game.

any team with a decent defense and a run game should be able to run down their throats. which I expect the patriots to do again. run blount/gray about 20-30 times for 200+ yards

Colts got it somewhat easy last playoff run. faced the WORST PLAYOFF QB andy dalton. and then got peyton manning who couldnt complete a 5 yard pass because his legs/arm were shot. imagine if they faced Seattle? they wouldve been blown out

It would have been in the Super Bowl. I'm sure the Colts wish they'd gotten far enough to get waxed by the Seahawks.

Luck has thrown a lot of interceptions, some of that is because he just throws the ball a lot. 16 last year, and 19 his rookie year. Brady has never thrown more than 14, Rodgers never more than 13 in their entire careers. Just looking at the past 7-8 years interception have gone down among QBs including Brady and Manning. It could be they just got better with experience but I doubt that's the whole story.

Guys like Rodgers and Brady have always thrown few interceptions compared to their peers. Manning got better but still throws more on average than either.

Luck isn't competing against 2003 Brady, or any other guy then when QBs regularly threw 15-20 interceptions a year. He's competing against guys in this era, where QBs throw half as many interceptions as him. He can still win, but I think it's a real issue. When we're talking about greats, and let's face it that's what we are discussing- whether Luck will be a great like Brady, Manning, etc. it matters. Time will tell, but Super Bowls are hard to win, I don't think it's a given he'll win one, or multiple.

Andrew Luck is the most overrated player in the NFL. The guy is a very good QB, but he is not an elite QB. He makes way too many mistakes. He is too much of a gunslinger. His ceiling is Brett Favre and he hasn't gotten close to his ceiling. Yes, Favre was the best of his generation, but his generation sucked.

I don't see many similarities with Manning and Luck. I think they are two very different QBs. Luck is much more like Favre.

That said, Indy hasn't changed since Manning left. They are still a soft team built around their QB rather than trying to build a complete team. They will continue to be a great regular season team and a so-so post season team. I don't think they will be lucky (no pun intended) to get two creme puff post season opponents to get to the AFCCG like they did last year.

Whole-heartedly disagree with this. Brady isn't the one with neck and nerve problems. Also just look at last year Brady was still firing the ball out in Game 19, Manning had started to fall off in Game 12.

They were excellent if your quarterback put up points consistently, which Peyton did. They dared you to run the ball believing you couldn't score fast enough that way and they stopped the run through scheming on crucial downs. They were fast, but awful against the run which showed even in their championship season when Denver started ripping 5-10 yard chunks up the middle and they had to go out and acquire Booger McFarland to stop the bleeding.

I didn't say they were bad, just that they were built to complement a guy who put up points quick and would be exposed if a team could stop Peyton and win with the run, which most teams could not.

This colts team hasn't patched it's weaknesses, or Luck isn't peyton, probably both.

Great athlete, thrower of the ball and fantasy QB. But when it comes to ability of being a QB he falls a bit short of being as special as Brady.

Nah! Brady will have a decline in arm strength as the years go along, but not as dramatic as Manning. Manning's neck surgeries have taken their toll. Manning admitted a few weeks back that he has no feeling in his finger tips on his throwing hand because of the surgeries. That is significant.

If you watched Manning throw last year, he throws the ball almost like a shotput now. He has to put far more of his body into the throw. He changed his whole throwing mechanics to adjust to his loss of arm strength. Brady didn't have to throw like that last year and most likely won't this year.

Yeah, they benefitted by facing one dimensional offenses where teams abandoned the run and decided they had to air it out to compete with Manning. It allowed Freeney and Mathis to pin their ears back and rush the passer on almost every play by halftime.

You've missed my point @Rob0729. Manning is celebrated for statistics, much like Luck. In that regard, the Colts have replaced Manning with Manning.
