Left Tackle will be huge ongoing problem for Pats this season

That wasn't what I was insinuating that David would get cut. I meant this would be his last year.

However, Koppen started 15 games as a rookie in 2003 when Woody got injured. Eventually took his job that season.

Bryan Stork started 11 games as a rookie in 2014

David Andrews started 11 games as a rookie in 2015 for an injured Stork and Wendell.
Good Post Mac 10 needs all the help he can get and I think if we get a Stronger Center than David Andrews Mac will be very happy and effective. We can help the Tackles by chipping on the outsides it's up the Middle I'm worried about Mac needs time to step up.

OC BOB's Offense take plenty shots down the field he's not into that dink and dunk stuff.
If we get hop.. everything is available to Mac.. what Mac also does well is be able to audible and change plays at the line based on the coverages..

Put Jack Jones at LT....he'll threaten every opposing D lineman with the temerity to rush him with double Glock blocks...problem solved..
or maybe we can all just relax and wait to see the finished product when the bullets start flying for real...

Either way...carry on

Only a few people like yourself notice Andrews gets pushed around more often than we'd like to see which collapses the pocket. With that said, the Pats can't afford poor play at both T's or the offense will be extremely limited.

So... I legit LOL'd, so you get points for that, but I am still gonna eye roll you.

When complaining that the Patriots didn’t add good enough players, it’s usually good to suggest who better options would have been.
I don't agree with that. Let's say you're driving down a road that was recently paved and it has a bunch of potholes in it already. And you say, "Man, I wish they would have used some other paving company or better asphalt,". Would you say to them, "Well, what paving company or asphalt would YOU have used?!".

You can say something doesn't look right or isn't good without a solution in mind especially if your a casual observer (like we all are).

Did we really overpay for reif by guaranteeing a 4 million contract. I was reading opinions by bears writers and they were talking about not going beyond vet minimum for re-signing Reif in March.

It's June only but still concerns galore on OT especially with brown regressing even further .
How did brown regress?

That’s kind of comparing apples to elephants

No ****, Sherlock….

Definitely the biggest weakness on the roster (both tackle positions)….BUT if we get 17 games from Brown and Klemm coaches Reiff and Strange up…..we will be all right, IMO.

OT is my biggest question mark coming into training camp, but I'm not going to worry about an individual o-lineman's "struggles" until they put on pads.
Exactly. How can an OL
“Struggle” when there is no blocking happening?

Yep, the offensive line is going to haunt them. We've never had a Pats team this late in the offseason where we have no idea who the tackles are in a very long time. And the projected starters shouldn't even be on the team. This should've been priority #1 in the offseason.

Even if Strange improves, this group is still worse than last year - and they were bad.

Opposing D's will bring the pressure on obvious passing downs until the Pats prove they can hold up with their protection.
Please explain why Brown-Reiff-Anderson is worse than Wynn-Brown-Cajuste

The tone of the post goes way past casual observer. It’s like complaining that ABC Paving Company doesn’t have adequately trained employees and XYZ Paving Company doesn’t have good enough equipment, without telling us who they’re comparing them to.

Are we talking a bold move for Orlando Brown or Paris Johnson? Or simply taking Broderick Jones at 14? Or is this supposed “great LT” somebody like Andre Dillard or Matthew Bergeron? We have no idea, except that we’re told that the Patriots definitely didn’t do enough.

For as nuts as DKF was, I didn’t appreciate enough at the time how straightforward those discussions were. He always told us exactly who he wanted, even if it was as asinine as removing Belichick’s GM duties and giving them to Eliot Wolf or firing McDaniels to hire Chad O’Shea as OC. Way more productive than the more frequent posts about how the grass would have been greener with some other unnamed player/coach.

OMG! The sky is falling! The season is a disaster!

Training camp opens in just over a month. Please pace yourselves. At this rate you’ll all be exhausted before they put pads on.

Happens this time every year, like clockwork.

It's the dead middle of the offseason.

Just got to have some drama.

In delving into the multiverse we found the following:

"While Patriots fans are optimistic about their OT improvement with the drafting of Broderick Jones, in today's pass happy NFL and the improvements across the board in the AFC East, not taking Christian Gonzalez will guarantee another bottom feeding campaign for this team."

It's easy to craft whatever negative "the Patriots are going to blow" narratives post-draft no matter what the team did and it was no different during the winning years. It's in the New England DNA...our teams are always going to suck in the coming year - it's the comfort food of fandom.

I believe Anderson will start at LT with Reiff backing him up. Brown at RT.

Anderson has gained experience and will be coached up. I think he can handle it.

Reiff was a good starter for a long time but he’s getting up there in age. There is no coaching up for Reiff. He’s a very solid backup now.

fair enough.

I'm fine if Anderson is able to beat out Reiff and starts with Reiff as the backup.

If that is the plan, then if Anderson isn't ready, then Reiff starts and Anderson backs up.

I still think Pats should have prioritized this critical position more than they did in Free agency and draft.
Riley Reiff is no Jonathan Ogden. Trent Brown is notoriously inconsistent in performance and injuries.
Calvin Anderson is completely unproven and Sow is not really a tackle. OT is a foundational piece in the pass heavy current NFL. To build a solid team you have to have pillars on the line that will hold up.

There has been consistent chatter about DHOP and how much he will help Mac, but I think LT was always and still is more important.
Doesn't matter if you have DHOP and Gesicki/Henry, if the opposing team's DE can walk right around the LT on the outside or with aswim move on the inside.

I think MAC will face a lot of pressure from opposing D's this year.
Surprised BB did not pay more attention to OT and that he is spending so much time wooing a 31 yo WR who does not like to practice and has previously said he was not wild about coming to the pats. DHOP is not going to transform this team...but a great LT would.

Yeah, only 34 days 'til training camp. Time to commence the negative forecasting.

How can anyone here not think tackle will be an issue? I don’t get it. It’s a problem.
On the optimistic side I can see taking a "wait and see" position but we all knew LT was an issue going into FA and the draft and they did nothing to address it. That gives ammo to the more negative fans out there. If Brown is their answer, you better hope Klemm, BoB and BB can motivate him from now until training camp (and throughout the season). If he's hurt, unmotivated and/or out of shape, it doesn't matter how much the Pats can scheme around teams' pass rush on passing downs.

I get that they're in a multi-year rebuild and they needed a #1 CB and a coverage LB but the need at LT, I feel, was great considering they need to get the offense back to some level of competency and to give Mac the best chance to succeed.

Right down party lines. I feel @RobertWeathers addressed it best. I would have liked a OT in round 1, but Gonzalez is too good to pass up, and they are going to win games by keeping opposing offenses from putting up 30+.
A top 10 defense gets Stevie Beleichick HC interviews.

Drafting an OT in the 1st round dont.
