OPEN YOUR EYES it is the BEST OPTION. Save Cap and usher in a cheap sucessor to take over for years to come. It is NOT lousy... you cling on to a player who will not return. The time has come for a Blocking TE regime change. Crump needs to go and make way for the FUTURE; a period of time he will NOT be apart of
You have the Lousy Logic not me.
Yeah Deus.... open your eyes and realize that a young, unproven, yet to take an NFL snap 5th round draft pick is better than a proven and multiple Pro-Bowl selected NFL tight end.You have no idea whether or not he's the best option. None.
yeah..but I thought Lee Smith was done the second year he closed for the Sox??...and NOW he wants to play TE??? jeezus, he's gotta be at least 55...isn't that way older than Alge?

Soon TheSolderKing is going to be telling us about the wonders of youthful magic up in his wishing tree.Solder...why all this Cap talk? Aren't the Pats comfortably UNDER the cap?
BTW, Exactly what IS the new cap figure when they sign the new CBA?
Sounds like a red herring to me

He just doesn't understand that the Pats will likely carry 4 TEs this year.
but i do know CRUMP is GONE in 1 year and cost more $$$ thus hurting our cap
i'll take my chances w/ the youngbuck
EFACrumpler at a cap charge of $2.4 million is roughly 1/53rd of a salary cap between $120 and $130 million dollars. I think your argument would hold water if the following conditions were met:
1) The Pats tight-ends (excluding Crumpler) had at least one guy with at least four or five years of experience.
2) The Pats had a full off-season to see what Smith could do.
3) The Pats were paying Crumpler a disproportionate salary compared to his 2010 playing time and projected 2011 playing time. (40% to 50% of offensive snap + misc. special teams work)
4) The Pats had a 5th Running Back or a 6th WR that they really, really, really liked and did not believe they could get through to the Practice Squad.
5) The Patriots are keen on adding a player to the roster with young balls.
If those four conditions were met, your argument has a good deal of merit, but I don't think those conditions have been met.

I get the aspect of always wanting to improve, but sometimes you dance with who you brought.
