the ladies love the young balls your right

he is a boy toy for the TE position Crump is old injury prone and he costs waaay too much $$$ in comparison.

It's not that we don't get it. It's that the humor's not funny and the point is a lousy one.

OPEN YOUR EYES it is the BEST OPTION. Save Cap and usher in a cheap sucessor to take over for years to come. It is NOT lousy... you cling on to a player who will not return. The time has come for a Blocking TE regime change. Crump needs to go and make way for the FUTURE; a period of time he will NOT be apart of

You have the Lousy Logic not me.

Lee Smith is the new Garrett Mills.

Based on NFL history he is at best 50/50 to ever play an NFL down.

You have no idea whether or not he's the best option. None.

Yeah Deus.... open your eyes and realize that a young, unproven, yet to take an NFL snap 5th round draft pick is better than a proven and multiple Pro-Bowl selected NFL tight end.

Oh testify.

You guys don't get it. Lee Smith is really big. Like super humongo giant really big, big. I also would like to point out that 5th round contracts were cheap. Don't know if y'all knew that but I have asertainified this information. Further, Crumpler is in-jury prone. Turns out that was a bold faced lie. Turns out he missed time last year not on account of him havin jury duty but because he fragulated a squidugation muscle or somesuch. I say we give his old self the dang ole boot and continue with my fine 'ol solution!

yeah..but I thought Lee Smith was done the second year he closed for the Sox??...and NOW he wants to play TE??? jeezus, he's gotta be at least 55...isn't that way older than Alge?

Maybe the Pats could do a testiclectomy and put Smith's balls on Crumpler.

Now them are some old balls!

And Alge Crumpler won't be on the can when we need him for the big play.

but i do know CRUMP is GONE in 1 year and cost more $$$ thus hurting our cap

i'll take my chances w/ the youngbuck

Solder...why all this Cap talk? Aren't the Pats comfortably UNDER the cap?

BTW, Exactly what IS the new cap figure when they sign the new CBA?

Sounds like a red herring to me

Soon TheSolderKing is going to be telling us about the wonders of youthful magic up in his wishing tree.

He just doesn't understand that the Pats will likely carry 4 TEs this year.

That is likely closer to the truth than Alge getting cut.....especially having a rookie protecting Brady's blindside.....

I hope Lee works out and becomes a stud...but I must be from Missouri

Crumpler at a cap charge of $2.4 million is roughly 1/53rd of a salary cap between $120 and $130 million dollars. I think your argument would hold water if the following conditions were met:

1) The Pats tight-ends (excluding Crumpler) had at least one guy with at least four or five years of experience.

2) The Pats had a full off-season to see what Smith could do.

3) The Pats were paying Crumpler a disproportionate salary compared to his 2010 playing time and projected 2011 playing time. (40% to 50% of offensive snap + misc. special teams work)

4) The Pats had a 5th Running Back or a 6th WR that they really, really, really liked and did not believe they could get through to the Practice Squad.

If those four conditions were met, your argument has a good deal of merit, but I don't think those conditions have been met.

Nice post and breakdown.

Crumpler is currently still a vital piece to this puzzle (IMO), provides incredible blocking, and all-pro experience to the younger guys, who are either in their first (Smith) or second yrs (Hernandez, Gronkowski). As you pointed out, his cap charge is absolutely nothing to worry about, particularly for the skills that he provides.

Sometimes I wonder exactly what a player has to do around here to earn anyone's respect? (see BJGE, Crumpler, Sanders, Ninkovich) I get the aspect of always wanting to improve, but sometimes you dance with who you brought.
