Keep expectations for Maye in 2025 realistic

I'm with you on this.

Everyone here would take Jordan Love, Jayden Daniels or Josh Allen's #'s from last year: 3389, 3568, 3731 respectively.

3500 yards would be "doable". There's going to be games where they ground and pound wins with over 200 yards rushing. They won't need to chuck the ball around like Joe Burrow trying to do it all himself.

The great Patrick Mahomes was sub 4000 yards. The roster does not suit the team passing for 4k.
C'mon, posters here think that Maye should certainly do better than those four stiffs, especially with our better supporting groups at WR and on the OL. SIGH!

I’m hoping he gets around 3500 yards, 25 td passing and 10 int’s. I just wanna see incremental improvements. If the Pats are winning this year, they need to have a good to great running game. If he’s throwing a lot, means we are losing and he’s trying to come back in a lot of games.

I want a good to great running game, and a great defense, I think that’s what will move the Pats towards being a good team.

4000 yards is a pipe dream.
It's only his second year. His receiving group and OL are still easily bottom third of the league.
He has potential but has not consistently proven anything yet.
RB's and TE's are OK but not great.
First year in McDaniel's system
It is not a certainty that he will excel
Expect TD's = Interceptions

He and the team are most likely at least year away from showing real growth and ability to put points on the board consistently.
Hoping that not too much is expected of him this year. Josh Allen did not start to shine until year 3.
Don't forget Maye can Run too: one can only imagine what McDaniels is going to do with a Dual Threat QB. Maye won't be an exclusive pocket passer: at least not early on in his young career baring injuries of course. That said I am expecting at least 600 yds rushing; we are going to kill it on Third on short RPO Maye.

I agree with this. Vrabel wants to run the ball, chew up clock, and keep the defense fresh. He’s not looking to throw all day and try to win shoot outs. There will be days where Maye airs it out, but the overall strategy is going to be to try and control games vs with the run game and defense, and only go pass heavy when the game dictates it. That should keep Maye from breaking the 4,000 yard barrier.

If Diggs is actually going to miss the 1st 4 games on PUP.. 4k yards would certainly be impressive with that WR group.
Maye would throw 4k picks without Diggs; let's just hope PUP Diggs doesn't come to fruition.

Of course expectations should be high. I don't want to put specific statistical limits (I don't care about x number of yards or TDs) on it but he needs to show an ability to turn some of last year's excitement into more winning and prove that he is the next franchise guy.
Winning is the most important stat a QB could have.. we as fans know this upfront and personal... I'm over trying to guess whatever drakes numbers will be.. as I've seen enough of him to know he's a good Young QB that hasn't even tapped anywhere into his potential yet... stacking wins will be the best barometer for a QB. Brady won early on, and collected stats later on as his career went on.. just win baby!!!!

Bumping this thread.

Do you think the Patriots would draft a QB one or two if they were in that spot. Or, is Maye still the man for 2026?

He needs to read defenses better and limit the mistakes. Some of the close games need to be wins. A stat line of: 25 TD's, 3409 yards, 8 picks may be sufficient.

This is a huge year for Maye.

No way we draft a QB unless he has a downright disastrous year, or very serious injury.
Kid has the attitude, work ethic and tons of physical ability, I'm confident in him.

Asking this question about a QB who's got the arm talent and athletic ability of an elite prospect AND after a promising rookie year is kinda nuts. Even if he has a down year this year, you give a prospect like him until the end of his contract.

I get flashbacks every time I see your profile pic, please change it

The expectation should be at least what the QB did in 2021
==========
3801 yards
22 TD's (vs 13 interceptions)
10-7 record including being in the playoffs
==========
I know we had great WR's then, but still. [the WR's were Meyers, Bourne, Agholor and Harry]

Agreed.
Much better QB, elite physical skills compared to below average in 2021.
Better WRs
Better RBs

I will go:
3995 passing yards
700 yds rushing
26 passing TDs
6 rushing TDs

I thought for a while that you were a depressing and negative fan. But I was wrong.
You are just a sad sad Troll.

So, you believe that Maye will be in the top 3 of rushing QB's? Allen and Murray didn't even have 600 last year. Hurts had only 630.

It's a bit optimistic, but that's 42 yds/game. I think he has that in him.
He averaged 32 yards a game last year and AVP was scared to run him, he even admitted as much, so I don't think 10 more yards per game is much of a stretch.
And really he only played one series in the last Buff game (0 rushing attempts), so really it was 421 yards in 12 games, so 35 yds a game.

I like that: we should be near impossible to Stop on Third and Short with Maye's legs. I hope McDaniels unleash him.

OK

IMO, there are two ways to greatly increase the likelihood of losing Maye for the season.

One is by having poor line play. Obviously, one poor play and Maye could be done.

The second is by Maye becoming more of a running QB than Josh, Murray and Hurts.
