Kayshon Boutte: "How The Hell Did I Get Here???"

Next year will be fun with this WR room, after they get an off season with Diggs and learn some more separation technique. That's what's next for them - getting distance so they don't have to make spectacular catches like that to have impact. Douglas is showing some of that now.
I think Pop is a good candidate for that intermediate threat every offense needs to keep defenses guessing. He's pretty good at getting open in tight windows. He's not quite Edelman but maybe he can cement himself as a strong roleplayer similar to what Danny Amendola was for us.

I want to see him stay, but it takes both sides to make a deal. I'm guessing it's going to take at least the $12M/yr Marcus Jones got, and quite possibly more.
I don't think that any of our 6 WR's are 2026 free agents.

Vrabel may sign a significant free agent or do little other than bringing in insurance and competition.

In any case, the passing game should get better as Maye continues to develop and because of expected improvement in the OL.

I totally agree: I was hoping he would be a $10Mill a year cap friendly deal player knowing Gonzo and Maye are on the horizon. But again Boutte have Youth going for him he's also much better than regarded. Really good contested catch player for his size.
Give him a five year deal. Six if the league and CBA would allow it. Add years of security instead of maximizing dollars.

I think his age gives the Patriots a shot at a cheaper deal if they make it only 3 years. Something like 10, 13, 15 with basically the first two years guaranteed let him hit the market at age 27 with a few more years having proved it with Drake. Then he could REALLY cash in, or if he is as good as we think he will be the Patriots can resign him to a higher end deal.
He’s already showed how good he is. Why wait? Lock him up for as long as we can for a reasonable price.

Probably not the same class, but Stroud looked good his first year, but now he is costing himself money and the Texans should be glad they didn’t lock him up.

Boutte wasn't a Second overall selection. It's a good sign no pun when a Player shine under the Bright lights. We have seen this before from Patriots WR's in the past.

Ooops, I should read more closely.

I thought you were referencing Drake.

If he keeps making catches like in the Texans game, I think we'll be moving beyond reasonable.

What if he doesn't want a reasonable price? Idk about you but 33 receptions for 500 yards doesn't fill me with HAVE to have him feelings. Don't get me wrong love the kid, want him back badly for Drakes sake, but if the price tag is 60 Mil I'm passing. Better places we can spend the money. He did get hurt twice and miss some games. He is also young and improving, has done so every year in the league so far. So that's why I'm ok giving him a short deal if he continues to become who I think he can be. I think he would be more amenable to a chance to continue to grow his name and get low WR 1 money in 3-4 years instead of good #2 money now.

He's only 23 despite being in his third year.

I really think that a middle ground 2-3 year team friendly contract with some good up front money will be a good way to kick the can down the road. If you can get him for like 3/40, 3/45 or something, that still gives Boutte the opportunity to cash in on a third contract when teams would still be very interested, as he's just entering his prime. It's a win for both sides.

Something along the lines of the Marcus Jones contract - and he's already outplaying his extension to be quite honest.

How would you feel about 5/60 or even 4/60 if he would take either of those?

I think he’s already showed enough to be worth locking up for a longer duration at a good price, if he’s agreeable. Assuming the team is protected against injury or catastrophic decline. Questions to me are what’s a good price, and what duration.

I would love 4/60, I don't think Boutte's camp would sign that.
I think the sweetspot is short-term, short money, anything over 2-3 years, Boutte's camp will want more money and higher guarantees, because you're getting prime years.

We'll see though. It's not like they're not going to offer him a contract.

Disagree with this. The only reason Boutte numbers are low is their offense, they spread the ball all over the place. They need to pay him more than his stats indicate because he's better than that and they know it. 60 million for 4 would be a great deal for the Patriots, because even ****ty receivers ) Calvin Ridley) are making more than that (20 per) 15 per would be a solid deal for Boutte.

I think 12 mil a year is as high as I would go and it would have to be easy to get out of year 3+ at that rate. I would even be ok with a 2 year extension for 30 mil with say a 15 mil SB. Technically he would still be playing next year on his rookie contract but paid at his new rate with 15 mil in his bank account now instead of a year from now. I think he would go for that as it gets him paid, gives him time to get stats, and lets him hit a third contract in his prime. There are only so many 10+ mil deals you can hand out and that player better be one of your 5-10 best. Boutte doesn't quite reach that criteria for me but he is borderline. I feel like we are going to have to choose 2 out of 3 of Chaisson, Tonga, and Boutte cuz with mega deals coming for Gonzo and next year Maye if they are smart with signing middle class deals the Patriots will have a 5 year window of top 10 team in the league.

All Three are not Break the bank type Players: so we should get something done.

You realize Boutte is our leading pass Catcher in these Playoffs right?? Having a knack for showing up in Big Games pays dividends.

Some players show up in the big moments while others less so.

Edelman was huge in the playoffs, Walker not so much.

We need to keep Boutte, and might really regret losing him.

Not that Drake and Mac are the same, but I don't want a repeat of what losing Jakobi did to Mac's confidence.

And? You can't make a decision about the next 3-4 years off of one or two games. That's how you get the people who wanted to sign a long term deal with Cam Newton cuz he was good for the first couple games he played as a Patriot. Salary cap is 295 million divide by 53 guys....5.5 mil.... ok my math was a little behind the times and I thought that was closer to 2.5 mil per guy. I'm suddenly a little more ok with 15 mil if it means you have to give up 3 average guys to have Boutte. Still my point remains you can't pay guys what they are worth in a vacuum. Great teams get more production then they are paying.

The reason Drake Maye is easily the most valuable player in football without even a close second is we are getting 60 mil QB play for 10 mil salary. If you give 10 million dollar deals to Chaisson, Tonga, Landry, Milt, Barmore, Spillane, Davis, Marcus Jones, Owenu, Diggs, Henry, Rham, Boutte, at a certain point you run out of money and your depth is garbage. That's not even accounting for the mega deal Gonzo is going to get and Drake the year after. I don't just want to bring this team back next year I want to improve it and as much as I have enjoyed those 3 guys I think we can do better. That's why I say choose 2 out of 3 or get them to take less then they are worth. Which most NFL players, rightfully, don't.
