Kayshon Boutte: "How The Hell Did I Get Here???"

Thanks for sharing. Takes a lot of stones for him to share his issues, I gotta lot of respect for that. Hopefully he keeps building on the last few years.

My rookie year, I almost walked away from the game. For real. After my last year at LSU, I went straight into draft training, then to the combine, then OTAs….. There was never really a break for over a year straight, I would say. And that was hard. I was just so tired physically, mentally, emotionally, everything. One day during training camp, we were sitting in a meeting, and I just got up and left. I walked straight out the building. I told our GM that I was done with football. I didn’t want to play anymore. Of course, he called me and tried to convince me to re-think it. Then my agent called me. And I sat in my car and thought about it deep.

I thought about whether or not I could live without it, whether I could walk away from the game and never look back. I’m a grown man, but I love football like a kid. I love it the same way I did when I was five. That part hasn’t changed, and never will. I was just in a bad spot.

Good to see him wrestling with his demons and pinning them.
Fact is, he's been a big contributor this year.

I liked this qoute:

"One thing about Drake, he doesn’t force-feed the ball to one dude — he’s not looking for WR1. He’s getting the ball to any and everybody."

My best friend had a horrible gambling and strip club addiction in our 20's. He was playing Texas Holdem at the local casino nightly or going to the gentleman's clubs. I'd joke with him that he was the customer of the month/year. He'd go on his runs, but as it happens with 99.9% of gamblers, the house will take those winnings back. Went into denial telling me he's going to get it back. He didn't and eventually stopped gambling. We actually hung out with strippers outside of the club. If you've ever thought it was cool to do that - it isn't. Although they were nice to hang around, they have massive amounts of baggage.

And it's still pretty clear Boutte was deactivated for the rest of the season because he didn't toe tap in 2023. BB was getting spiteful towards the end of his tenure.

Props to him for sharing, in this era when the sports leagues are pushing gambling harder than they push tickets this is an all too common problem.

Also, WOW this team loves its QB and coaches. So much fun to root for a group of guys who seem to be rooting so hard for one another.

Really great article. Thanks for sharing it.

And great props to KB for sharing his story. Opening up like that is heroic.

He gets it in a way that Belichick can't because he's lived both lives (player and coach). Not to say that Belichick didn't understand, of course. [And let me add that he had his own run-in with the legal system while with the Chiefs, so I imagine that informs his handling of player discipline.]

Gambling addiction tell Kayshon I'm betting on him Sunday Night.

He opens up a bit about his gambling addiction and a little bit about this year's team.
Awesome story of self-redemption. There are very few who can pull themselves out of that hole on their own like he did.
- role-models matter: His Dad & Ja’marr Chase.

Wow that was really a great read and story of redemption. I’ll always be rooting for KB, and of course every Pats fan has gotta love the part of him talking about what this team means to him.

There's a reason I don't gamble.... this is basically it.
Dopamine production is a hell of a thing.

I've never gambled, either, but the second best advice I've ever heard about it is, "Only gamble money you know you can afford to lose."

The best advice I've heard is "Remember, in the long run, the casino always wins." [As an example, slot machines in Vegas are required to return at least 75% of the money that goes into them. Most casinos set that number at 90-95%. But that still means that for every $10-$20 you stick in the machine, the casino's going to get at least $1 of it. Similarly, on roulette, you get even odds on red or black, which in the long run loses money because of the "0" and "00" spaces.]

Thank you for posting. Good luck to Mr Boutte and his family.
