Joe Milton is a "better option" than any QB available in this year's NFL Draft.

Milton + Pats 4th for a 2nd. Could see it.
So that gives me an interesting thought in relation to the draft. We’ve all talked about how easy it is to talk ourselves out of the candidates at #4. It feels like there are some elite prospects in this draft with Jeanty at RB, Warren at TE, Campbell at LB, Malaki Starks at FS but they’re all pushed down the board because of positional value. Maybe it makes sense to trade down from #4 even if you to take a reduced price and taking one of them.

Depending on what you got, you might be able to package that return, plus our 2nd, plus the extra 2nd you’re talking about here and move back up into the teens for another one of those prospects. Come away with two prospects you feel great about even if they’re sub-premium positions.

Some outside the box ideas…

Colts - they don’t really want Anthony Richardson right?
Raiders - Geno Smith understudy to take over in 2-3 years?
49ers - Trade Purdy instead of signing him to a mega deal?
Vikings - JJ McCarthy competition?
Rams - Stafford replacement in 1-2 years?
Dolphins - Tua insurance since he misses so many games?
Panthers - not totally sold on Young?

If they do ultimately move Milton, hope the Pats would let this grow to a crescendo and allow other teams desperation to fester as much as possible before taking a deal.

Well this sucks... i really like milton... and this is as a tn vol fan... i like Dobbs as well... the Hail Mary he defeated Georgia with cemented him as a vols legend.

Dobbs Imo is a 3rd string level qb back up.

here's me wishing in one hand

1.maye
2.milton
3.dobbs

Here's the other hand...

Buh bye... milton
.. we hardly knew ye.

A second-round pick from the Titans, Browns, or Giants is just outside the first round. The Pats would probably jump on it, but I'd be surprised if any of the three made that kind of offer unless the Patriots threw in a lower round pick.
Milton + our fourth for their 2nd

Why didn’t we have this same conversation about Zappe after his first year?

Because no one saw Zappe as a future potential franchise QB,

And Zappe was drafted two rounds higher.

Milton has his warts, but you can’t teach what he has.

Too many teams with lots of needs in a weak QB draft class. A 2nd round pick is a real possibility or 3rd round pick + a solid veteran ( FS or DT)

Milton + our fourth for their 2nd
I hate it, but I'd have to do that deal.

Also, you have to burn one of our picks on a QB. You can't roll into camp with two complete ****ters behind Maye.

Kyed and Hurley on their podcast talking more like a 4th or 5th for Milton. I personally don't think that would be worth it. (They aren't impressed by that last game against mostly air).

Milton is unknown enigma and could become like Lamar. No way are we trading him anything below 2nd.just keep him as backup for next 2 years and maybe in 4th year trade him for 4th or 5th rounder. Not now.

The qb room appears to be all set. I can't imagine any moves with Milton. Maybe, but it seems he's money in the bank.

I can get behind most of these, but the two I've highlighted seem extremely unlikely. [BTW, he's two and a half years older than Maye.]

Oh yeah, I was just throwing out any scenario I could think of. Most are unlikely

Based on how you describe Milton fitting in, would it really make sense for those teams to give up any sort of premium pick for Milton that makes it worth our while to move him? I don't think it makes much sense to trade a day 2 pick for someone who, per your descriptions here, is only a backup/insurance plan/competition. It'd have to be somewhere where they see him playing right away. And if they only offer a day 3 pick, is it even worth it for us to move him?

Yeah, not every situation is created equal. That said, a QB with a decently high floor and some promise to develop is typically drafted by round 3 - so I can see even these teams sending a 3rd if they think he has a chance to be their starter in 1-2 years, or if they think he will play a lot.

Year 4 he will be 28 and if his entire career has been as a back up then I'm not even certain you could get a 4th or 5th for him.

I'm happy to keep hold of Milton and let him develop behind Maye. Right now we're 1 injury away from a quarterback crisis. Having Milton in reserve is a good thing, it gives us some hope of victory in the worst case scenario.

In a universe where Jacoby Brissett easily found another job after leaving here, I'm not for sacrificing QB depth without a damn good reason. And it's not impossible that Milton gets the opportunity to break out HERE if Maye keeps having concussion issues due to struggles on the line.

Nonsense. Seriously, every QB has their own development path and trying to shoehorn an older prospect like Milton into a traditional track is a fool's errand.

Everyone knows he's raw and not that young. Everyone sees the 150mm howitzer he's got attached to his left shoulder too. And everyone saw the surprising accuracy with which he deployed it against the Bills' backup secondary

If he hasn't done anything to hurt the impression of his value there will be interest.

Lol... Please re-read what I wrote if he does nothing but be a back up to year 4 (meaning he has little game experience) and is 28 his trade value is not going to be very high. I don't give a crap how far he can throw the ball. I agree he hasn't done anything to hurt the impression of his value but it goes back to my reply about never starting and age. If you want to justify his abilities based on the game against Buffalo well there is your nonsense.

Keep vs Sell:

Keep:
- he could be the difference between making or not making the playoffs some year if Maye misses some games
- he saves us a ton the next 3 years as a good but inexpensive backup

Sell:
- he could be worth a 2nd, some GM may see it that way. Everyone missed on Purdy, right? (and of course Brady 25 years ago)
- ask for 4th this year (or a pick swap like their 3rd for our 4th), plus a 3rd next year that can elevate to a 2nd - an easy deal for the other team to make.
