Joe Milton is a "better option" than any QB available in this year's NFL Draft.

I think 2 years of Milton as a backup far outweighs the draft pick of 3 or 4 or 5 that we get.
I didn't follow your post.

You are saying you would not trade Milton for a 3rd rounder?

Dunno about @Toofy but I wouldn't. Gotta measure your real cost vs opportunity cost, and risk is a cost all its own. A 3rd is not worth the increased risk of what happens if Maye gets hurt and we have to lean on our backup for 4 weeks. I'd trust Milton to win 1-2 more of those 4 games than a generic backup.

I guess beauty is in the eye of beholder.

To me, Milton hasn't proven himself as a viable backup QB - yet.

I'd trade him for a 3rd rounder in a heartbeat.

I'd trade him for a 3 or gain 3rd round value for him in a trade without thinking twice

If trading Milton, I'd like to accomplish a couple things.

I'd like to trade a 7th for a 6th in 2025 (we have three 7ths and zero 6ths) which will balance out the time between draft picks more smoothly creating more optionality.

I'd like to receive a 2nd round pick in 2026 that becomes a 1st if Milton does well (trigger threshold based on games played in 2024, not sure how many or what % of snaps). The reason for the pick being in 2026 is because I think the 2026 draft will be stronger and I want to receive future draft picks to smooth out contract expirations and to take steps in an effort to build something sustainable.

If it's less than this, I'd prefer they just keep Milton. I wish they hadn't signed Josh Dobbs or any QB prior to deciding to attempt trading Milton however in fairness to the Pats, I don't know if they already have a trade of Milton lined up or alternatively made the decision to keep Milton. But if they do trade Milton, I hope it's something like above.

I suspect that Vrabel has signed a #2 that he knows and is comfortable with.

I suspect that Milton will be passing to the 3rd team and UDFA's when we get to rookie camp.

Me too but realistically any GM who makes this deal to acquire Milton should and will be immediately relieved of their duties as GM with their team.

I want to keep Milton at least another year. Make sure Maye stays healthy and doesn't self-destruct late in games. When we are confident in that, then deal Milton.

Way too many fans are over-valuing Milton as a quality backup and what he would fetch in a trade.

If he is just a backup why so much trade interest for a back-up?? Something's not right???
