Joe Milton is a "better option" than any QB available in this year's NFL Draft.

So we're supposed to think Mallett, Stidham, Zappe, Milton is Tom Brady now? Yikes.
+1 +1 +1 +1 (though you forgot Garoppolo)

I mean, we get it. Tom Brady was a 6th rounder and developed into the GOAT. But for every Tom Brady, there's 100 guys selected in the 6th round who didn't even remotely make it. Nobody who passed on the guy 5 times last year is going to give up a huge pick for him tomorrow.

They are not getting a first rounder for him. Just not how it works. Teams had his tape, his combine and a chance to draft him last year, and it seems everyone had no particularly high grade on him as he fell to pick 193. His only game action is basically against a bunch of backups in a meaningless game. Yes he looked good, but it was a glorified preseason game.

The sample size just isn't there for teams to jump up on their grade for him so much. We traded Jimmy G for a second rounder.... and he had a much higher grade generally and saw at least one game of snaps vs a starting D. So he moved up to 43 from 62 or 186 points.

Milton won't get such a push and shouldn't... but let's assume he get that same 186 point bump up. Pick 193 (+186 draft value chart points) = 200 points. And i used the draft value chart, cause a lot of teams still go by it. 200 points = 78th overall. which frankly is probably the best we can hope for... might even be possible.

That's fair and add a conditional first if he plays more than 10 games for them over course of 3 years or is starter in 2026 for them or if they trade him for higher than pick 78. It's the Carson wentz kinda deal. If you get a franchise QB , you are gonna pay for it. And that's at least a first rounder + 2nd rounder .

It is hilarious how history repeats itself. People actually thought we would get a first rounder for Mallett.
What about Jimmy G? He was gonna get us a 1st and 3rd. At minimum.

The operative word that you’ve intentionally omitted here is “prospect.”
Yes I’m talking about him as a prospect. How is he “great”?

He’s a great prospect.

In other words he has not yet famed out or screwed the pooch. Yet.

But…
But…
But some fantasy addicted PatsFans chat group poster thinks they should!

So of course they will.

How can you not see that?

Let's end this discussion. With every team holding onto their prime free agents and considering draft is crapshoot let's develop Milton and trade him to a team with 2 bonafide starters in return. If rams need him we get back Alaric Jackson and something like that.

If teams want a franchise QB , no a 2nd rounder will not cut it . We will need to fleece them and let's develop him till we are in a position to fleece them. This 3rd rounder or 2nd rounder is useless. Him being a backup for 3 years on 1 million salary is far more useful.

just because Sanders and Ward are not that good, and teams need QB's, does not make Milton an NFL QB.
no one has seen him play against NFL starting players. no one has seen him play against a defense that has game planned for him. no one has seen tape of him to prepare a defensive game plan.
he continues to be a 25 years old prospect.
the Pats and only the Pats have seen enough practice film on him to determine if he is worth keeping or not. if they do, will they bring in a veteran #2? if the Pats like him, they would be wise to ensure there is staff to continue working with a 3rd string QB with some upside.

They shouldn't trade him for less than a second at this point. Lets see how he does in the preseason, I think a backup qb on a rookie deal with his tools is worth at least a third to the patriots.

However, people keep acting like the Bills game he won was the last preseason game, the Bills didn't play all their starters, but they played most, and those that did play are still pretty darn good players.

6'5" 235 pounds or the same size as Josh Allen, 4.6 forty or faster than Josh Allen, can throw it 90 yards and do a backflip, mature enough to play now, played in a game and played well enough (76% completions, no turnovers/win) to garner trade interest in year two... looks great to me.

I loved the draft pick late in the draft, lots of upside.

ahhh yes. the deal where Bill was fleeced
Matt Cassel trade received a second and change, Jimmy G received a 2nd and change... but Bill got fleeced. Sounds legit.

Taking the best offer available for a player who is entering free agency next offseason is not getting fleeced.

The market determines the price.

Not the unreal expectations of some homer fans.

But for every Tom Brady, there's 100 - Purdy = 99 guys selected in the 6th round who didn't even remotely make it.

If we could flip Milton for enough draft capital to get Will Howard and have some change left over I'd do it.

Belichick boxed himself into a corner.

That said, he also got the 49ers to eat Brian Hoyer's contract (they paid him ~$10M for 8 weeks) and release him outright rather than including him in the deal, which would've cost the Patriots a comp pick.

You should probably be more aware of when players were drafted before attempting to "fix" other peoples' posts.

Milton is a project. Ala Malik Cunningham who everyone loved last season. Hasn’t yet shown he can read defenses make good decisions or consistently accurate throwing short. There’s a reason why a guy with his physical attributes was a day 3 pick.

QBs with high upside who never realize that upside are a dime a dozen. I’m not calling that “great”.
