Jim Rome on the sack dance

Look guys, we won the game, so it's OK to be critical if the Pats deserve it.

I'm a little embarrassed by what happened, although I'd like to actually see a clip of it. It's not consistent with the professionalism the Pats normally exhibit. I wish it hadn't happened. Then the focus would be more on the amazing 4th qtr, not the sideshow after.

This is not the first time the Pats have used thier opponent's signature dance or celebration to stick it to a team they feel has disrespected them. Vrable and Rodney both did the Flying Eagle arm flap in the Super Bowl. Two weeks before that, Pats players on the sidelines were waving they're white towls to mock the "Terrible Towel". This week they mocked a cheater and yapper on his home field after a tough win.

I'm not ashamed. In fact, I'm glad to see some emotion out of our football team. On to Indy! Merriman can do his "Lights Out" dance when he sinks a big putt this weekend

True, true true.

But, I'll put out the challenge again: Which of the other three winning teams this weekend acted like the Patriots did when they won?

Chargers have to live with themselves and own up to their loss. Patriot players ought to admit they were relieved to the point of having gone a tad bit overboard.

That's a decent point, I guess, but I might counter it with these points:

Which of the other teams this weekend...

a) had their opponent's all-pro linebacker come on at halftime of their wildcard game and say they were going to lose that game?

b) had that same linebacker guarantee victory during the week?

c) had that same linebacker say he was going to "punch Tom Brady in the face" at a pep rally earlier in the week?

d) had the opponent's offensive coordinator whooping and hollering and saying what an arse-kicking they put on the Pats last season?

e) had the opponent's head coach saying they had a nice run but they were done?

And finally, which of the other teams this weekend were all but written off facing a #1 seed in their conference and hung around like a veteran team with savvy until their younger and stronger and frankly, more talented opponents made crucial mistakes?

I said it leading up to this game:

This came down to Belichcik vs. Schottenheimer and I liked our chances.

Nobody smells blood in the water like the BB & the Pats and nobody makes his team bleed in the water at playoff time like Marty Schottenheimer.

Schott's mistakes cost the Bolts this game - going for it on 4th & 11 in the first quarter and giving up 3 points; challenging an obviously correct call and wasting a valuable timeout; et al.

The Pats won a hard fought contest against heavy odds and a much younger and stronger team and they had every right to celebrate and celebrate hard!

LaDanian Tomlinson and Phillips will just have to lump it for now.

LT he had a nice season. An historic season. He is the league MVP. He is going to the Pro Bowl.

He's also going home for the offseason.

Exactly! I love it!

I see a ton of our fellow fans suggesting that they are disappointed in the silly little two second celebration dance. Why is our team not allowed to act like any other team? I really love seeing Rodney flap his wings after the Eagles superbowl. I love those moments of silliness. And that is exactly what it is: Silly.

Nothing more.

Jim Rome said 'Lost in all this is the fact that the Chargers lost the game.'

Ouch! I think he has hit on the truth of this whole matter.

The Chargers fans and team, and the media in general, was unprepared for the Pats to win, and their reaction en masse is to divert the topic and deflect blame.

As Rome mentions, if Merriman doesn't want to see other people do his dance, then he needs to stop doing his dance and nobody will have anything to copy.

Secondly, if you don't want them dancing on your logo, you need to defend your field.

Third, the Chargers dropped the passes and made the mistakes to lose.

I feel that this whole staged 'outrage' in the media and amoung the players is just a classless reflection on the Chargers. They don't even have a mechanism to deal with the fact that they lost, showing that they never really took the Pats seriously. That's what happens when you celebrate your victory before the game starts.

Grow up, Chargers! The outrage is that you lost the damn game!

Exactly. They are creating a controversy to serve as a distraction from their gloriously painful choke job.

The patriots have won 12 postseason games with BB and Brady. Who have they mocked? The trash talkers. Eagles and now Chargers. DOnt want to be mockeD? DONT TALK TRASH AND LOSE. THe chargers have more than pissed off the pats ever since last year. The patriots did no responding of any trash talk, they bottled it up. Then on Sunday they exploded and when it was all said and done, the lights were out in SD.

If Merriman wants to support Brady Sucks chants and say he's going to hit brady in the mouth, well then his stupid little dance is gonna get thrown right the hell back at him and his team that supports him when they lose. Now go whine about the patriots, the CLASSIEST organization in the NFL, as being classless all the way through the offseason, druing the pro bowl and into next season.

.................

Challenge? I'll answer if you tell me which other losing team this weekend
danced in the face of their adversaries all year?

I remember the Pats waving the white towels to the crowd in Pittsburgh. It's not something I like to see my football team do, but I suppose to the victors go the spoils.

What goes around, comes around though. There will be some teams that will definitely taunt the Patriots at some point in the future. That is, if the Patriots ever lose.

You do realize that every team in the NFL already does these silly and trivial little things already?

What are they going to do to taunt us? Who on our team has a signature anything that the media pays attention to?

If some player from some other team does a tiny little dance after beating us, I will be much more concerned about the loss. And my criticism will be aimed squarely at what our Pats did wrong to deserve the loss!

Terrel Owens does a dance on the Cowboy star, George Teague comes over and wacks TO and he is just defending his pride/home turf.

LT does the same thing and he is classless? Dont get the double standard.

Most people who have ever stepped onto a playing field would have done the same thing.

It's over now, we lost, you won. I dont think we will hear much more about it until next regular season when we go to Foxboro.

Again, good luck the rest of the way.

What are they going to do? The Pats don't exactly give opponents much to work with.

How are you gettng Jim Rome, is that off of satallite radio?

LT did it once in the middle of the game, didn't he? I can't remember, but I thought that was the case

On one point, I will agree with you.

Alot of posters here are ignoring the fact that Ellis Hobbs acted like scum after the game. The Patriots stand for something. Ellis Hobbs did not act like a Patriot and I think you will see that he'll be talked to about that. Dances during the game in the heat of the moment, which I hate, are one thing. It is far worse to pull that crap after the end of the game at midfield, when the palyers are hugging and shaking hands. That's just bottom feeder trash stuff from Hobbs - - and it's not the first time he's done something like this - - he was talked to by the vets last year for the same thing.

That being said, he was the only one at midfield doing that dance. You, the Chargers and their fans are throwing alot of mud at the entire Patriot team indiscriminately. It was one player. Get your facts straight.

Great game Patriots. I was at the game and saw how a 14-2 team beat themselves into becoming a second-rate team. Your architect BB is a really talented coach; couple that with 'luck' and you have a dynasty.

I couldn't care less for the 'classless' antics. The Chargers should have won this game but they didn't.

Kudos!
