Jets claim Sudfeld

I swear, someone on the Jets stands outside Gillette Stadium near a dumpster and waits to see what the Pats dump in there.

It used to be worrisome when the Jets would pick up a former Pat and try to get some inside info...problem is the Jets are so irrelevant in the division now it doesn't matter.

This thread has some comedy gold for a Friday night!!

Of course

@RavensInsider: Tight end Zach Sudfeld claimed by the New York Jets, according to a league source

Do you think if we covered airfare they’d take Develin too?

In retrospect, I'm surprised that the Jaguars didn't get him first, like they did all of our other castoffs. They'd have priority, right?

.

Potential is a b1tch Zach

By a wide margin, yes.

Well, on the plus side, any promise Sudfeld had will be completely wasted with the Jets.

Just until he gets cut by the JEST.

That might happen sooner rather than later. Chances are Rex is just dyslexic and has a cold so thought he was claiming some Sudafed

Probably trying to steal signals or offensive play philosophy.

Sure, posters think this all the time.

I suspect that Rex and the defensive coaches understand the plays and signal better tun Sudfeld.

Sudfeld has potential, but he isn't close to field ready. The Jets can only destroy any future development he might make by trying to throw him into games anymore than the Pats did. He needs to bulk up and learn to block.

I imagine getting cut is about the worst thing that can happen to a player. Especially a rookie.

But, then fate can sometimes be a cruel mistress. When you don't think it can get any worse, the jets have you. Hopefully the kid will get some more reps and improve.

BB probably told him the Jets were going him up. BB probably also told him he loves his work ethic and ability. If he decides he wants to win, just tank it with the jest and he'll bring him back into the fold (ok, that's preposterous, but fun to think)

Seems to me that the Pats believe Mulligan had surpassed Zudfield.

Even if Zudfield made it back to the PS, odds were slim that he would dress for a 2013 game again and he could have been claimed by another team at any time.

I don't believe a team can "claim" a player off a PS, though they can "sign" one (which requires the player to agree to sign).

The bottom line here is that Sudfeld has the physical talent to succeed in the NFL, but the fact is that he pretty much wilted under the harsh lights of prime time. It probably would have been much better for him to have spent a year on the PS. Unfortunately he a couple of those highlight reel catches during preseason that would have made it likely impossible that someone wouldn't have grabbed him at the end of TC. Not only that, we had the need at TE as well.

This is a good pick up for the Jets, not necessarily as a player who is going to step in and immediately help the Jets, but as a good developmental player that they can afford to keep on the roster since within a month they will be playing for next year. If you'd like to see him back, our best hope would be that he somehow get lost in the shuffle of the chaos bringing in a new HC next season

Personally I would have rather kept Sudfeld than add Collie, but that would likely be trading some immediate (if presently unknown) need, for a potential future benefit. And while the decision seems very murky right now, BB has earned enough trust that we should let it play out before we start making judgements on the move. Not that it will stop anyone
