I've Seen Enough of Drake Maye...

just not fast enough for you? A player gets injured on Sunday and the coach must tell you by Tuesday night, the night of the cutdown?
It’s not that, it’s why even say I’ll know Monday, but you might not. Why say mate is the second best QB, say is a straight out competition, say mate outplayed him? He’s talking himself into a corner.

JT O'Sullivan with his QB school breakdown of Maye against the skins...whoever they are now. When I was watching the game I was mentioning the multi hitching into trouble. When Mayo said Drake is out played JB, I took that as in the games he has outplayed him but he is the 2nd best because of some of the issues that are pointed out in this clip.

This clip is 38 minutes or so and absolutely display just how much natura ability Drake has. I do not think he should start week 1, I still think that he falls into some questionable habits that he had at UNC

Thanks for the link. Drake's college poor footwork is still there. I encourage everyone to watch even half the clip. It is not a hitch in his throwing motion, but a weird thing where Drake constantly shuffles forward for no reason before throwing. At times Drake moves in the pocket well, but other times he over-shuffles before throwing. The extra footwork looks like a nervous movement which will be hard to get rid of. After watching this tape I hope the Pats sit Drake for awhile. Getting rid of nervous bad habits is really really tough.

Conversely, it is easier to see the issue happen in a real game and then work on it the next week with reps. If he never plays then you never see it and as the backup he gets no reps.

It’s football.
It's not though. Football insinuates that there's an offensive line blocking a defensive line. We don't have that currently = way higher risk of injury than actual football.

I don't think you fix a nervous thing (hitch or twitch) through game reps. The game reps add more reason to be nervous, disappointment, etc.

Game reps can teach reading the field/defense, going through the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd reads, changing the play at the line, etc. No QB learns that type of stuff without game reps.

On the McAfee show, BB said the important thing is once you start the QB, you can not pull him or you might ruin him. Tua recently criticized Flores, who repeatedly pulled Tua, and "being pulled" still bothers Tua years later.

Drake is only 21. We think of all rookie QBs as being equal, but Drake is very young. Drake did not develop extra emotional confidence by staying in school so the Pats better be careful.

Mac was 24 for instance. At 24 sitting for a year or two makes less sense. At 21, sitting awhile would not hurt.

When will they announce the starter? Last i heard was early this week, did that change?
good question - Think they wait til next week, give them time to assess Briskets shoulder...

Good point. With zappe’s release despite the injury i think that at least shows theyre not 100% against the possibility of drake being thrown in there right away

Mayo said they would Monday, but we might not know Monday. He is not handling this very well.

Okay, i wasn’t sure if i was imagining the part about early this week. As others pointed out though it may have to do with brissetts shoulder

thats why we should have kept zappe
I'm not fully convinced zap won't be back on the PS. We are #3 on the waiver wire.. so he likely ends up back here.

I believe they know the extent of Jacoby injury.. wouldn't be shocked if it ended up being an AC joint.. even he does start and if he's making errant throws expect him to be put on short term IR... IMO..

agreed... the incumbent administration in NE is on the fence because there is pressure from the outside to play Maye, and they are a bit too willing to bow to that pressure it seems... That's just my read on the situation at hand... Its one thing about BB I miss, when he made a decision, good or bad, he stuck with it.

Possibly... Zappe should have options though... He is (probably) seen as a potential (relatively) cheap back up around the league... He is not a starting quality QB, but he does have starting experience... could be a spot starter if needed, and is an upgrade over a lot of the back ups out there...

I understand what you’re saying but I don’t think a lot of it has much to do with what I said. I don’t think they would need to pull him so that’s not really relevant. I’m sure they would work with him on any mechanical items they continue to observe as the year goes on. If he’s riding the bench, he isn’t working on them because he’s not getting reps. It would just be delaying things until the next offseason, or whenever he ends up seeing the field. I think the only reason to be concerned would be if playing him would cause any mechanical issues to become bad habits or permanent, but due to his age and his lack of any prior training on any of this stuff I don’t think that’s a real concern. He will continue to work on it.

Agree 100% that's why I believe his value is higher here. Milton is a developmental QB who I believe the team will develop him to use for future trade commodities.

So if zapp were back here like you said he'd give them a familiar veteran that could start if needed. I believe zapp got humbled this off season..

He is only 21 so I don't see why a slower learning curve is a bad thing. It would be delaying some things, as you note, while he gets his feet wet, has an off-season to work out and train, and build his confidence that comes with increased familiarity. Why does waiting until Maye is 22 with more confidence and refinement a bad thing?

Milton is a wasted roster spot

We can’t claim someone we waived, and why would we? You cant claim to the practice squad.

I think he would build more confidence and learn faster by actually playing and winning games. Additionally, free agents would get a good look at his talents on display and it would make NE a more attractive destination for them, making it easier to build around Maye sooner with better pieces.

Why can't we sign a waived player? It's done all over the league
