I've Seen Enough of Drake Maye...

I hope his performance in DC caused Washington staff and fans to quietly wonder if they made the right choice of Daniels over Maye.

I know I wouldn’t trade Maye for Daniels.

I don't know, Washington seems REALLY happy with Daniels so far. Not that I'd expect them to say anything less at this point, but still. I think both teams are happy for the moment. We won't know who got the better guy for a few years, really.

i'd go back to 2015, when bryan stork and david andrews were handling the snaps... Andrews had a capable back up in Ted Karras in the intervening years... before Andrews, the best center we had in the BB era was Dan Koppen... and Koppen was a really good center... one of the best... under rated player
Thanks Pape! That was a truly enviable position that the team was in regarding the Center position.

i gotta agree, though right now is just the dog and pony show leading up to the season... we'll see how Coach Mayo handles the ins and outs of the year... we should know pretty quickly whether or not he's got the elusive "it" factor as a HC...

my biggest complaint so far is that he's not polished when it comes to dealing with the media, and sometimes says stuff he has to later walk back... not a good look... hopefully he learns that he doesn't need to provide a detailed answer for every question asked, and that sometimes its okay to say nah, can't answer that one just yet...

I don’t worry about his dealings with the media, the most important thing to me is how they compete. The need to play clean and efficient, but more than anything I want to see the fire to win. I want intensity on both sides of the ball, I want other teams to hate playing them. I don’t care about the wins this season, I care about changing the culture so we can see how bad they want it.

Someone mentioned it here before, but at this point, you're very publically saying "we're putting in this QB because we care less if he gets injured" if Maye is much better than Brissett and they still start Brissett.

Couple of reasons why that's bad -

It's never a good look to sacrifice players.

As a coach, that's such a stupid message to send to your OL. That you have no faith. Such a weak message.

So, if our eyes treated us to the truth last night, you kinda gotta start Maye. Right? I mean Bill started Mac because he was better than Cam at that moment.

The only reason you don't start a player is if you have another player better than him. For better or for worse, Maye looked a lot better than Jacoby last night.

Also, on terms of development, early season is kinda a big opportunity to develop. You get a sense of the speed and talent in the NFL while every team is doing what you're doing: trying to figure out what the **** works and what doesn't. No team is in mid season form.

But WTF do I know lol.

I didn't like the draft pick, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised at a couple of things.

1. He moves in the pocket much better than I thought he would.
2. His athleticism translates to the NFL better than I thought it would.
3. His accuracy is better than I thought it would be. I saw a lot of underthrows in college, but I'm not seeing that now.

I dunno. A lot of posters here unfortunately do have agendae, as you know.
Maybe you don't.
It's too early for me to say "jobs too big for him". The dude hasn't even coached a single reg season game yet.
A little slack should be cut.
Give him some time to make mistakes and correct them.
Im just commenting based upon what I see. I don’t buy into the school
of ignore what they do at first and don’t assess them because they are new.
I agree though the newer they are the less informed the opinion is and it’s more likely to change. Still, I see what I see.

Those are the warm up words, unless they're followed by "I am wrong" the...uh...discussion is far from ended

That's reasonable but, the early signs are worrying.

Fair enough. I see stuff too, but I don't usually express an opinion on something until I feel I have an overwhelming amount of evidence and a solid base of knowledge on the subject.
Which I don't believe exists yet.
But to each his own.

Against vanilla defenses, but still..he's quickly processing the defenses well thus far.

Start Brissett until the OL gets their **** together. I do believe the Patriots have found their franchise QB, and I don’t want to see him get destroyed before his career really gets going. Last night we saw the reasons he was the #3 overall pick, he’s got the arm, athleticism, and football sense to have a long and successful career, no need to rush him in now.
I agree, he certainly has a mass of talent. Why start him only for him to get banged up. address the OL problems first. Then we shall see just how good he can be.

Because playing makes him better. You can’t hold him back because you were negligent in putting an OL together while you left $50,000,000 in krafts bank account. That is compounding problems.
QBs have to face pressure to win. Every qb has to be able to deal with a defense owning his OL and still find a way. Experience under adversity is the most valuable experience.

Start Maye. That is all
Are you sure it's wise to throw him to the wolves with the current state of the OL? Three of the Pats first four games are away to the Bengals, Jets and 49ers. I'm a Maye believer, but that's a pass rushing baptism of fire.
