I dont know if the defense is good enough. So.etimes they look awesome and other times not so great. Red zone defense is the worst I've ever seen.
Every defense looks good sometimes and not so good others. Only 4 teams allowed fewer points ( one of them by less than half a point a game).

You don't get to have too many elite players. As long as the QB is elite, I'm okay with that. However, I would like an elite pass rusher.
There’s no such thing as too many elite players. lol.

I know this topic is just about the defense….but I worry about our Run defense AND our offensive run blocking …..If we can’t open up some lanes for the RBs….not going to last long in playoff run

I know we are near the top of the league in many defensive categories.

We haven't faced a murderers row of offenses this season.

We're dead last in red zone defense.

We're plus one in turnovers.

I'll feel better with Williams and Tonga back.

If we can lock down Allen and Cook this weekend that'll be huge.

We've had plenty of seasons like this under Brady. The differences were always the coaching and the QB play.

2011& 2012 we had historical bad passing yards allowed seasons. We made the superbowl in 11 and the AFCCG in 12.. We've also had years we didn't run the ball well but still made superbowls.

First order of business is taking care of cook.. he's such a good back that you won't ever totally take him away but limit him and force Allen to have to play hero ball. That plays into the defenses hands.

Totally get where you're coming from.. all season long it seems this time is still not given the respect they deserve.. and the fact they have flaws and things they can improve upon while having an 11-2 record is just dam impressive no matter what transpires the rest of the season/playoffs.

Who here would rather have the Bronco's or Texans defenses going into the playoffs, but Nix or Stroud as their quarterback? Because you can't separate one from the other. Would you rather go into the playoffs with Drake Maye at quarterback and the Patriots defense, or the others?

I'll take Maye with a healthy Milton Williams.

We’re also one of the worst red zone offenses in the league… they really need to put more work in during practice in the red zone.

Pats NFL rankings in points (PPD):

Scored: 9th
Allowed: 5th

The defense is arguably better than our offense.

That’s misleading. And maybe wrong.

Our offense is #1 in the metric that matters most: Ws.

Denver is the only other 11 win team. So if you’re right that means there are at least eight teams with more points scored but fewer wins.

But, when I look at ESPN team stats they show the Pats as 7th for points scored, and Denver is much lower (14).

Where did you get your ranking?

Agreed. It also has to be mentioned that we are also a team that makes alot of big plays of 20 yards plus for scores.. wich lessens the times where we are having to get inside the 10 and score. For instance the play to Williams went for 33 yards and a score.. against giants.. we have big play abilities with Drake..

I am sure the stats are great. I am just saying by the eye test. 100% success rate in RZ, poor starts in most games arent what elite defenses have. They arent bad. They are good. They are not great. I trust this offense more right now than the D.
Would you rather have poor starts and poor red zone efficiency or start well be better in the red zone and allow more points?
Every defense has positives and negatives. Ours add up to allowing fewer points than 27 of the other 31 teams.

You thinking offense alone is responsible for wins is where you’ve lost the plot. It’s a combination of all three phases. Tom Brady passed for 505 yards and 3 TD’s but lost to Nick Foles… it wasn’t for a lack of offense.

When we’re specifically discussing offense or defense I look at points per drive. This stat isolates offense, defense and special teams. It’s a better stat for judging these units individually. Total points is a team stat.

Marcus Jones took an interception back to the house or Chaisson picked up a fumble in the endzone… those aren’t points scored by our offense. Neither are Marcus Jones punt return TD’s... which are bountiful.

PPD stats are found on Pro Football Reference.

Financially there is, that's why when you spend big money you better spend it right.
