I think this sums it up. There really aren’t any “scary” offenses this season and there’s a lot of good but very little - if any - “great” across the league this year.

Honestly, it’s going to come down to who is playing the best football down the stretch. What’s crazy is this Patriots team isn’t even doing that yet, and if they can continue improving on offense and the defense can make a few more stops than their opponent, they’ll definitely have a shot.
Curran brought up an excellent point the other day. For long stretches of the season they have played championship level ball. The fatigue factor starts to creep in, along with injuries.. so some drop off was to be expected.. the bye week was just what the doctor ordered.. literally.. .. milt has more time to recover.. Tonga and other key guys... gonzo gets more time to treat that hammy.. I believe they come back recharged and ready to roll..

The short answer is yes, if heathy. They have the formula which is stop the run and have the CB’s to match up in the passing game. 99.9% of teams around the NFL are scrambling to to just to find one good CB. While the 2025 pass defense is mediocre statistically, so were the 2001 team. They gave up a lot of passing yards, but not TD’s. Gonzalez, Davis and Jones are capable.

With that said, every defense cracks at some point and it will come down to whether Maye can carry the team as their running game can’t be relied upon.
Agreed. They have shown some cracks like every D.. but they keep teams out of the red area alot and get off on 3rd down.. gonzo and Davis as of late have been lock down.. I said before that Marcus is the biggest beneficiary from gonzo and Davis on the outside..

You win. They did win the game in Buffalo.

Their schedule has been weak, but you only play the teams on the schedule. However, to their credit they beat the only 2 good teams they have played, Buffalo and Tampa Bay, both in their houses.

I think our anemic running game and our D's weakness in the red zone will not allow us to go very deep this year. But then I have understimated the team all along this year. so perhaps I am wrong, which would be fine.

I've always been a fan of the 3rd act regular season bye. Early byes are the worst.

I hope they figure the red zone D out, even if the rest of the league is struggling. This defense would be stifling if it fixes that number, because we rarely allow trips to the RZ to begin with.

If they fix the two things you're talking about? They will be head and shoulders better than any team in the league this season. Kinda wild to be saying that. Coming into this season it was "if Maye is the guy, if the OL can do anything, if Diggs doesn't have a bum leg, if the world's shortest receiver core suddenly shows its balls, if if if if... Lmao.

Did the Giants exploit or embarrass him on any plays that you noticed?
Didn’t analyze. Just noticed some plays he looked pretty well blocked and didn’t notice any plays he made.

I figure if we didn’t see him exploited or embarrassed he didn’t play poorly.
If we saw him making plays that would be playing well.

I do recall at least once the broadcast team commented positively on him, which is a plus.

Me too.. didn't we have an early bye a few years ago? I remember in 08 ee had an early bye week..

I don’t think it’s really noticeable outside a few stand out plays to evaluate a
DL without going back and reviewing the film.

Our defense is NOT elite but I think it is good enough if the other phases of the game do their part.

I know statically, this defense is very good, much better than my eyeballs tell me.

Well I'm curious, what are your eyeballs telling you?
They're telling be they're a really solid secondary, pretty good against the run, only place they really struggle is covering tight ends, but that's 30 teams in the league.

Next week, Gonzalez on Kincaid, Davis on Knox. Will Tonga be back?

They haven’t shut out every team. Passes are actually completed against us, we don’t get a sack on every pass play. We are not supposed to allow any positive plays at all, and when a non future hall of famer does it, that’s just embarrassing.

How do you catch a team unaware?
The Bills thought they were hosting a potluck for the Patriots and right when they were setting up the tables and crockpots on the field Sunday morning they were told they had to play them in a game of football.
