Is Danny Amendola the next domino to fall?

you know political correctness has spiraled out of control when you praise African American athletic superiority, and get called racist, lol

Its 2016. I can't believe this is even a discussion.

Are you watching the presidential debates?

Perhaps it is catching (I'm actually more than a little serious).

I guess you can't decry name calling on the internet when our own presidential candidates do it on TV.

sorry ... wrong door
thought this was a football forum

(still searching for DA thread ...)

Wow, I literally had to go back 10 pages to read anything Danny Amendola related.

Would you argue that the stereotype that Asians are super strict academic brainiacs isn't racist? Technically that is "praise." Because that is essentially what you are doing here.

dude get a ****ing life. It's really not something to get this worked up over.

Back in the early 90s I took a Vector Calculus class and I used to get stoned before it with an asian fellow in my dorm. He got a A and I got a C.

I always wondered if I didn't get stoned before class if I would have gotten an A and he would have stayed at an A or gotten a C if he wasn't stoned.

Hey! That's the exact same thing you told me! What are you doing here debating controversial topics and saying controversial things if you don't expect people to get "worked up"? You get worked up yourself sometimes, don'tcha know ...

I am also a bit lost.
Update: Amendola still is on the team and under contract. This thread started as speculation, so the fact that two young idiots steered it OT with outrageous claims of black racial superiority shouldn't matter all that much.

Again, WAYYYY too politically correct.

I understand we've been brainwashed to believe anything race related is bad, but stereotypes can be accurate and they can also be positive.

Pointing out that certain races are good at certain things is 100% positive and complimentary. It takes a special type of person to spin it into a negative, and then convince an entire group of people that it's a bad thing.

No, saying someone is good at something positive like academics, or sports is just a Good thing.... No need to overthink it. It's ok to point that out. Pathetic we've become so obsessed with race that we can't even recognize that African American on their ability to succeed at something.

To be fair, "scurvy little whelp" is almost Shakespearean, so h/t to @Tunescribe on that one.

As I said a few pages ago, there is a good conversation to be had about this stuff. And it's frankly silly to get all screechy about how absolutely scandalous it is to notice that black athletes absolutely dominate sports like basketball and football.

@AvocadoIceCream makes his points very clumsily and a board like this doesn't really allow for the depth the conversation requires, but the points themselves are hardly offensive.

I will say, we need a competent punt returner this year. Whoever it may be

Well, I don't consider myself on the "Cut Danny train" nor do I think Hogan is necessary better.
I am, however, on the Belichick Value Train: Danny's contributions are not worth a $5M salary and $6M cap hit. That's just basic team management economics, and recognizing that fundamental economic reality doesn't make someone dislike DA or "want" to cut him -- instead it makes you recognize that the value you get doesn't work for you from an economic standpoint. In fact, I think Danny has been incredibly clutch for us and has value, and I hope he stays -- with a significantly restructured deal.

Who said he would be unemployed? Not me. I only said the market isn't going up over time as free agency and the draft approach and pass, which is precisely what BB does time and time again. He helps create a financial environment for the player in which they have a reduced chance of meeting the price that the Patriots are offering in the free market. But, in any event, there is NO way that ANY team is paying DA $5M a year, given his history and production. He would be lucky to get a $10M / 3 yr deal. His market price is about $3M year - is there any legitimate dispute to that? If there isn't, then he is not priced properly right now.

Wrong. I am acting precisely like a Patriots fan: smart money management, buying low, selling high, finding value, long-term strategic team building vs. emotional, short-term "the window is closing!" thinking. Clinging to fan favorites at any cost is what other teams' fans do.

Then thank goodness you aren't running this team's personnel decisions.
Though this thread has taken a bit of a turn since I last replied...

I don't disagree with your characterization of what the Patriots do. At all. What I do disagree with - in this isolated case - is that these are rules that are applied uniformly and without context. The 'context' in the case of Amendola that I believe favor him staying with the team either on his current deal:
1) spiking prices in the free agent market that put the primary 'replacements' out of reasonable reach
2) an enormous increase in the cap which makes his deal less expensive that it seems on its face
3) the Patriots high regard for 'value' to be determined on ST as well as just raw money stats like catches and TDs.
I'll note that none of those things are "clinging to a fan favorite", and I would add the intrinsic value of his time served with BB/TB and his proven clutch value (your words) but I was trying to stick to the more tangible aspects.

Now, I could absolutely be wrong. A small part of me is expecting to learn he got cut as soon as I click post. The addition of Bennett does change the equation a bit, as would the addition of another WR who is clearly better than Amendola (Gordon, Megatron lol kidding but per article this morning), because it works to, in all likelihood, push him off the field more if we allow that Gronk/Bennett/Edelman/Hogan/RB is the likely preferred '12' personnel package.

I'm not advocating that they extend Amendola at the same money or give him a raise, which makes your "short term the-window-is-closing!", comment curious. They're not on the hook for a ton of money years out from now, so it's a bit false to build your position here as being about long-term cap health. They can save an even bigger chunk of money next year (with half the dead money count), so it will be revisited then - when, I might add, they'll know a lot more about what Hogan and Martin are.

1) They have the cap room - a) for his $6.8m hit, b) to still sign other FA and/or to extend JC, MB, or DH and take some of the hit this year
2) He's still better than the available FA at his position/price.
3) He would still see plenty of playing time on ST and offense on the team as presently constituted.

When any one of those things changes then I'd expect to see movement on the DA front. It's not the impassioned plea of an Amendola fan-boy, just the other side of the coin in attempting to determine what his value is to the team, and why even if they might be 'overpaying' him this year it doesn't necessarily follow that the team has all the leverage, or that he must be restructured or cut.

Edited to add:
Amedola is a LOSER who SUCKS and he's sooooooo WHITE

You both must have been outstanding students if you were able to pass Vector Calculus when stoned.

'Stokes theorem..that sounds like "Tokes theorem"...heh, heh, heh'
'The Curl of F...you know, I could really get into some Curly fries right now....the type with chili on them"
'...oh, is the teacher still talking?'

About 1/2 the time I was OUI. Hard as hell class.

Looks like Danny might be on his way out

There is absolutely nothing wrong with controversy. It's only the negative personal flavour that is unproductive.

FYI: this is also taught at the graduate level (e.g. leadership curriculum)

Personally, I don't have time for the fearful who tend to speak in veiled discussions and empty phrases...get enough from that by those who instill fear.

I appreciate everyone and that they might have formed an opinion. Whether or not I agree is not going to hurt me or ruin my day. In fact, it hurts more that some might not develop that far because they cling to fear(s), instead.

Personally, I went down the esoteric path...began investigating education, methods et al. I came away with a (self-formed) opinion that number- as it's currently taught -is incomplete and incorrect; only accurate when objects are still. Of course, this is not the case for the living. And if/when we get number right (i.e. in conjunction with the 7 Liberal Arts), we can then teach geometry, music and astrology/astronomy (i.e. the remaining members of the quadrivium) correctly, as well. FYI: they represent number in space, number in time, and number in time/space. Most "instructors/teachers" don't even know what do do with number in time (i.e. music); turn it into a giant sing-a-long. Number in time will become the medicine of the future; sound used to heal. However, these insights will take much longer- at the expense of our humanity -if they continue to be maligned and neglected.
