Is Danny Amendola the next domino to fall?

Are people already dismissing Martin, Harper and Dobson?

I don't think anyone should dismiss Martin by any means, but I'm not sure how Dobson or Harper instill confidence in you? I don't think too many are going to see them as anything more than the last spot of the depth chart/camp fodder.

Hell, they may not even make it that far. Dobson could go at any minute, depending on what they do from now until the end of the draft.

I think DA would take another paycut/restructure deal at this point.. You can tell within 2 minutes this dude loves playing in New England, Genuinely loves/really likes his teammates,Coaching staff, Kraft n Family, Fans, just A to Z!!.. If he could do anything realistically to be a Patriot for rest of his career honestly believe DA would.

Nobody forced the Pats to sign him to his original deal or to redo it later. If DA decides that he doesn't want to rework his contract again then I support him. I think the Pats would be foolish to dump him if he wants them to stick to their recent agreement.

I would rather he restructure again rather than get outright cut. That said, the Pats have put together a very redundant threesome of WR's. Sure, Hogan can line up at the X but he's also very capable out of the slot and brings many of the same skills to the position that both Edelman and Amendola do. Plus he's not nearly as injury prone. But I would prefer to keep Amendola in the fold because we're still not sure what Edelman's foot is going to be capable of next season and the Patriots need that quick outlet for their passing attack to work. I just don't want to keep him at the salary he's getting paid. Now, all that being said, if the league sees fit to reinstate Gordon and the Browns put him up on the trade block, I would expect Amendola to get cut in a heart beat and for the team to aggressively pursue Gordon.

Amendola caught 648 yards and 3 TDs in 14 games. That is with Edelman out late in the season, Gronk missing a game and a half, and Brandon LaFell dropping balls left and right. As much as I love DA he's not worth his $6 million cap hit. Like many others have said here that restructure/pay cut is the way to go. Otherwise I wouldn't mind cutting him since now we have Chris Hogan to pair up with Edelman as WR1 and WR2. WR3 spot could be filled by Martin or Dobson (pray to God he's going to be healthy this year).

When talking about DA last year, I agreed with Brady6 that he would have a hard time sticking around this year at that cap number. It's all about value with the Pats.

I wonder if they're allowing him to shop around a bit while considering a restructure. I wouldn't mind them rolling an extra year in to keep him in a reduced role through 2018. The guy is clutch - a couple of games last year turned on a big return that gave them great field position.

Also, I believe he led the WRs in receptions last year. I'd like to see him stick around.

I was referring to them solely as already being in the mix as others were discussing the need to bring in another veteran WR, rookies, etc. They hadn't been mentioned. No, I don't have confidence in either, although part of me clings to the wishful hope that Dobson finally can put it together.

I think a vet WR may be considered only if Amendola is cut, or they bring in someone cheap enough to compete in TC only to eventually be let go.

In other words, guys like the Michael Jenkins' of the world. Vet WRs who don't have a spot locked up. With 11 picks though, I think he takes a shot at a WR somewhere along the lines. Just my opinion.

If Washington is signed Danny is gone is my guess.
If Josh Gordon is aqquired sorry Danny boy, however put me in the camp who would like to see a restructured deal to bring his cap hit down to the 2.5 3 mill range.
Unless we get Gordon would much rather have that beast.

Two points on this:

(1) Only Dislike counts as a negative comment. Disagree (the red x) is neutral.

(2) If you look to the left, you'll see that Ian has disabled the black/red numbers; only positive comments (everything except Dislike and Disagree) show up now.

A red X will never be neutral. Symbolism is far more influential in human communications than logic ever will be. That's why 80% of what's communicated in FTF verbal interactions is body language, tone, and facial expressions, regardless of the content of what is said. The red X is the same thing, particularly if it isn't explained immediately after by the disagreeable party.

Off topic but if the Pats could somehow get J.Gordon that would be amazing. Rare athlete who can take a 5 yard quick slant 80-90 yards for a TD. I love Edelman but Gordon adds another dimension and game breaking ability no Pats WR's have. I know its a long shot but hey with the way things have gone here last few days you could never say never.

The football rumor mill that keeps talking about Gordon to the Pats if he is reinstated has done great harm to his chances with Roger. A shame.

when it comes to punt and kick returns, Amendola is still needed.......

Is it just me or has Florio been trying to dampen the spirit of Patriots fans since yesterday? I mean with this article and the Tweets it seems odd. There's a big difference between an actual source and baseless speculating with click-bait. Count me as one who doesn't take much stock in this article.

No question.

If you believe in cause/effect, his absence in the DEN reg season game cost them the Super Bowl.

NE is a better team with him- for the right price.

Martin could and did do both last year
Martin did not field any punts for NE last year. Doesn't mean he can't.

The Two TE formation with Bennett who is the real deal just made Danny Amendola expendable...not to mention Mr. Hogan. Pats could double dip[ early on at WR finding guys who can do exactly what they are looking for ie...an Outside the numbers guy also one that could work the slot.

I will say that if they don't knock his number down that his chances of being released go way up

danny should just restructure. does he really want to leave kay adams all alone??? no

Love the FA trade strategy getting guys that Protect Edelman and Gronk we know how impossible this Offense is to stop when both are healthy. Last year showed that when either was out the Offense was not effective. Now add Bennett and Hogan and the Offense though not as deadly would more than move the chains. Now we have very good dept.
