Interesting offseason cuts around the league thread

Best move today so far is, IMVHO, the Titans grabbing George Wilson.

I was hoping we would take a look.

If Jairus Byrd flies the nest (geddit! huh?!) the Bills will have to replace both starting Safeties.

He'll be here all week. :bricks:

So asomugha might be cut. I say sign him if he's cut. He wasnt used correctly down there.

If the money was right, this would be interesting. After all the weeping and gnashing of teeth around here last season about the DB coaches, the idea of bringing in a player who would probably need heavy coaching to get back on track would be appealing in a trainwreck v. redemption sort of way.

DB coaches to Nnamdi:

Whatever team gets him has some hope that they can undo whatever the last two years were, and get a nice press corner.

He was really really good in oakland. No idea what they did to him in philly. He's 31 I believe so if he was cut he couldn't command too much. His recent play works out good for us in terms of getting a reasonable deal. Heres hoping he gets cut.

I think it's simply the fact that Oakland played almost 100% press man coverage and Philly played about 90% zone coverage.

We were not asking Talib to play much zone at all and so I doubt we would for Asomugha either

Been having a good look through the FA list this evening, and I'm intrigued by an idea.

Now, it's just an idea, not a desire or something I'm desperate to see. But something that I find a little interesting and pretty entertaining to think about when looking at a certain player and how we'd use him.

The player I'm talking about is Reggie Bush.

Don't get me wrong, I've never been his biggest fan and indeed I think he's a pretty epic bust. Neither would I replace Ridley with him and I wouldn't want to see him block the development of Vereen. His skillset is intriguing though and it doesn't take Stephen Hawking to project him in this offense and the uses he could have.

Something to think about on a cold late winter's evening anyway......

Bush wants a starting job. He's not going to get that here in New England.

I see nothing wrong with projecting any player who could benefit the team in any way, ever. After all, it is the offseason and we're all just speculating and passing the time anyway.

My concern in this situation would be the cost of Bush which will likely be too high, the fact that he's definitely looking for a starting role (as DaBruinz pointed out), and the lack of a need for that kind of 3rd down back or starting tailback with Woodhead, Vereen and possibly Demps on the team.

I would imagine that Belichick would much rather have Woodhead stay here on a much more reasonable pact as opposed to bringing Bush in to take over that kind of role. As a matter of fact, one could even make somewhat of an argument that he may rather have Woodhead instead of Bush no matter what the cost involved was, but we really don't know that for a fact.

I certainly agree with you in terms of his potential explosiveness when used in the right setting though, and that kind of player can always add value to the team.

We should know more about whether or not Asomugha may be playing with Philly again this year very soon, possibly even after the combine weekend is over.

From what I understand, Philly will have to pay him a 4 million dollar roster bonus no matter what since he played in 90% of the snaps last season, something they could have avoided by taking him out later in the season when their games didn't matter one bit.

I am wondering how much that 4 million dollar bonus may come into play, and whether or not that will give them even more incentive to restructure him at a more reasonable cap hit over the next several years? Of course, he'd have to agree to a pay cut or incentive laden pact in the meantime, which is no sure thing at all.

If it's an option and he hits free agency, I'd be very tempted in bringing him in. The problem may be that he will still cost too much though.

Well, that's pretty obvious, and it was just a mere though, as stated.

Imagine what we could with him though.

It's just a bit of whiling away the wee small hours....

a halfback with speed and good hands out of the backfield that's injury prone?

sorry...no thanks..we already have one on the roster for one tenth the price...Vereen

Any interest in Anthony Spencer? Reports make it seem that he won't be back in Dallas.

Better 3-4 OLB than 4-3 DE and one dallascowboys.com writer predicted that Spencer could get $10-12M a year in free agency.

Interesting that Dallas is keeping Miles Austin. They do know there is a cap, don't they?

Per NFLN, the Eagles have told Cullen Jenkins that he will be released.

Maybe they don't think he's a fit on their 3-man line, though IIRC he played DE at GB.

Eagles cut Mike Patterson too. Comeon and cut Nnamdi already...
