Interesting offseason cuts around the league thread

I wouldn't mind Breaston on an Addai-like contract that can be easily cut.

Breaston rode the bench for most of last year, and he claimed that he didn't know why. The Chiefs film every one of their practices, and Reid had access to those tapes. Breaston got cut.

That's awfully red flaggish, to me, particularly since Reid's a guy who loves to throw the ball.

Also, as a side note, Boss needs to retire. It's a shame, but he's another of the concussion guys.

That's weird...I assumed he was injured seeing the 7 receptions. It can't be ability related, nobody starts their decline at 29. Probably acted up, team was so bad they just threw him on the bench. Definitely a red flag though.

He did sign a 5 year deal worth 25 million, certainly not chump change. Did they save any decent amount of cap space cutting him?

Someone from K.C. to keep an eye on is the DE, Jackson. He's got a huge cap number and will either restructure or get cut. If he gets cut loose, I could see the Patriots having some interest in him.

No thanks. I never have any interest in former 1st round pass rushers that didn't pan out. Why?? Because if they didn't pan out in 4 years, they will NEVER pan out.

61 receptions 785 yards 2011
47 receptions 718 yards 2010

Candidate for a cheap #3 WR perhaps.

Make it happen. He could come really cheap. Do remember at one time he was a 1,000 yard receiver with Kurt Warner launching the ball out to him.

Where did I say he's a pass rusher? He's a top pick who played well against the run at times, but was overdrafted as part of a lousy upper draft in 2009. I think he'll probably look for more than the Patriots are willing to pay, but I could see them giving him a "If you don't find what you're looking for, give us a call" kind of pitch.

Ok, I could understand signing him to a 100% low risk, high reward contract where we can cut him before the season starts without suffering any loss. (see Joe Addai)

If what you're saying is true that he isn't a pass rusher, but more of a guy who could stop the run, then I really have no interest. Our Rush D is fine, and what we do need is interior pass rushers, not more Gerrard Warren's. (Not that he was bad.)

I don't think Breaston is a realistic option. He was made a healthy inactive late last season and had seven catches in 10 games. His offensive coordinator from last season is now with the Pats (Daboll).

Although, that's not nearly as fun as getting to tell people that Peyton Hillis won't be joining the Pats because he supposedly was making a run at Josh McDaniels' wife when they were both in Denver.

How does a TE group of Gronk - Hernandez - Ballard - Dave Thomas sound?

The thing about Dave Thomas is that getting rid of him was a mistake, but it was a mistake that led to GRONKnandez.

Anyhow, I'd be fine with it.

One thing that makes me wonder though is his QB play. Obviously it was horrible. I wonder how much that may have come into account?

Good catch with the Daboll connection, as I'm sure he'd have a good read on any potential that he may/may not have.

If it isn't Breaston specifically, it's probably going to be a couple guys like him at least, so we're going to have to deal with the fact that no one here is going to be very pleased with their past production, at least lately.

Here's a little something of interest to those of us where were involved in the Maualuga drafting debates. It's not official but, hey, the board's slow:

While speculation continues in regard to the future of Cincinnati Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga, it’s likely that the team will pass on re-signing the fifth-year pro, a source with the knowledge of the situation said.

Maualuga played in a career-high 1025 snaps during the 2012 season, but struggled with game-to-game consistency. The former second-round pick out of the 2009 NFL Draft started all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career.

Tyson Jackson would be great in New England. He has experience in both the 3-4 and the 4-3. He can play inside or on the edge.

He'll get restructured (again) or get cut for sure. He signed a cap friendly restructure last year, and at 26, he should be open to another Chiefs-friendly extension.

Unless he's got injury concerns, Dave Thomas makes a lot of sense as our 4th TE and Hernandez backup.

Yep, I just thought I'd add in all of the real free agents too though. I think the other list is purely speculative at the moment. Some will be on there and some won't be.

Either way it gives a lot of competition to the spot of CB outside of the draft, and it also makes the rankings that have Talib as the #2 CB a bit questionable due to the sheer volume and talent level of those players, which would be good in hopes of keeping him on a fair deal.

Reportedly we are meeting with Arrington's rep today to discuss contract. While the Eagles are meeting with Nnamdi to discuss a pay cut or being cut. The backstory at the combine is far more compelling than all that track and field bs they do in spandex...

I never quite understood the love for Rey. He made some flashy plays on a star studded LB group, and he shot up boards. He wasn't the guy you would hone in on for making plays throughout the game. I was always in the Laurinitis camp in that debate.

Michael Turner to be released. Just out of gas at this point. That leaves them with 5'6 Jacquizz as their starting tailback.

So asomugha might be cut. I say sign him if he's cut. He wasnt used correctly down there.

Best move today so far is, IMVHO, the Titans grabbing George Wilson.

I was hoping we would take a look.

If Jairus Byrd flies the nest (geddit! huh?!) the Bills will have to replace both starting Safeties.

Agree. I know Asomugha struggled the last couple years, but he was as good as Revis before going to Philly. It's worth a look to see if a change of scenery might do him good.

Put another way - if we're going to sign a man corner who struggles in zone and has question marks, it's probably better Asomugha than Talib, to be honest.
