Injury Creates Starting Opportunity For Former Patriots Quarterback (Mac Jones)

The Bill cult changed their mind and now they think Bill should get credit for Mac Jones.
I don't believe anyone has said this so it would seem to be that you are the only one changing your mind. As normal just more trolling and hating.

Mac will turtle. He is good for a game or two, and then turtles. It will not change.
I don't get why it's surprising he did well.. But the reason he is a backup and not the starter is because when teams actually gameplan and prepare for him, he's not able to elevate. He is what he is and I wish him the best but totally agree

He still makes too many mistakes and can't throw downfield. The 49ers will likely go 1-1 with him in the next two games. But they absolutely need Purdy back for the Rams game. Mac Jones isn't beating them.

I think McDaniels did a great job of hiding his faults for a majority of the 2021 season. Albeit against thrash teams. Inevitably, defenses caught on to the fact Mac Jones couldn't throw downfield. And that was pretty much it. He is still making the same mistakes in year 5.

That 2021 QB class was...something.
  • 1: Lawrence - starter on team that drafted him
  • 2: Wilson - backup on his 3rd team
  • 3: Lance - backup on his 3rd team
  • 11: Fields - starter (but not for long) on his 3rd team
  • 15: Mac Jones - backup on his 3rd team
  • 64: Kyle Trask - cut from Bucs camp, free agent
  • 66: Kellen Mond - UFL
  • 67: Davis Mills - backup on team that drafted him

They were playing a bottom 3 team in the league.

Was watching clips of him and it looked like his best in 2021. He was able to zip passes out there and really get going. You can tell he still has poor pocket mobility and awareness and did have a strip sack in there.

It won’t sustain for too long, but he is showing he’s a quality backup in spot starts.

This.

To be a legit starter, you need to counter effectively once defenses adjust. He can't do it.

It's why when a rookie QB has a great year one, I don't get overly excited. The true test is always that second year.

Right. And he's probably one of the better backups in the league today. Shame that the dog pile coaching he got from 2022 to the end of his Patriots run squashed any chance he had to be anything more even if that wasn't likely to happen.

We may finally find the answer as to what kind of QB Mac Jones can become. As some people may be reluctant to admit, Belichick did the kid absolutely no favors in his second season. Matt Patricia had absolutely no business being the offensive coordinator for a NFL team. No wonder he looked for help. Do you realize just how incredibly mental it was that we had a former DC with zero in the way of offensive coaching background be in charge of a whole offense? Belichick never would have tried to pull that s*** with Tom.

Both can be true that a) Jones for a few reasons didn't have what it takes to be a starter. And yes Bill cult, your boi used a first round pick on him by his and only his choice. Own it and wear it. And b) his coaching was hot garbage from 2022 on.

Tom would have told Bill to lay off the weed if he even thought of nonsense like making a DC his OC.

The interaction between him and his coach was something, indeed:

Mac never wanted to be coached like Tom

I had a feeling hed do okay and happy for him that hes carved out a role in sf. Looks like he can probably be a good backup in this league and win you games you should win. That said, guys a front runner and only as good as the situation presents. Once he runs into some adversity its gets pretty bad

Mac has a below average arm but has excellent accuracy and timing in his throws. He has surprisingly good mobility and is very intelligent.

His fatal flaw has been a high propensity to panic under pressure. He doesn't succeed off platform not because he is unathletic but because he freezes up when forced to go off script. That's what every opponent figured out. Pressure and confuse Mac and he will become a dumb QB with a weak arm.

I don't know if his panic problem is fixable even with superior coaching and cumulative experience. But if he does master himself, he'll be a lot better QB than many folks here think.

I watched this game out of curiosity and Mac has improved. Handled pressure much better than I've seen from him and I'd argue he threw the ball with a little more velocity. I still don't miss him but he looked like a fringe starter. I think he is gonna stick in the league as a long term backup and maybe be a starter in his 30s like Geno.

That wasn't an argument I was making. I was pointing out that Belichick never would have tried that Patricia as OC thing with Tom around. But with a young kid who didn't know how to stand up to him?

I wonder if they want a used Dobbs...

A. Probably not.
B. Even if they did, do you want Tommy Cutlets as Maye's primary backup?

Also plays awesome with a lead. Heroball when he's behind, even if it's just one possession.
